Non-professional media "operations" team
After 69 years of formation and development, propagandaand education work at the Kim Lien National Special Historical Relic Site (Kim Lien Relic Site, Nam Dan District, Nghe An Province) has also made changes to adapt to the new requirements of the times, contributing to better performing the task of preserving and promoting the value of President Ho Chi Minh's heritage.
In January 2023, Kim Lien Relic Site established a special “working unit” – “Media Team” – headed by Director Nguyen Bao Tuan. This “unit” is tasked with promoting communication work and promoting the image of the Relic Site, thereby further promoting the heritage value of President Ho Chi Minh in the new era.
The members of the Team are officers and civil servants selected from different departments and offices in the Relic Site. Each person has their own expertise but they have one thing in common - they are all "amateurs" in communications work.

Ms. Phan Thi Quy, Deputy Head of the Propaganda and Education Department and Head of the Communication Team, said: “The relic site does not have any specialized staff in charge of communication. We are staff from different departments and offices in the relic site assigned to work part-time, without any specialized training in communication, nor technical skills, and the equipment and machinery are still simple. To perform our tasks well, everyone has to learn on their own to try to do their best,” Ms. Quy shared.
Like Ms. Quy, she graduated from Foreign Language Pedagogy. Every day, in addition to directing the work of explaining, performing ceremonies, and welcoming guests, she takes the time to learn more skills such as photography, writing articles, editing, and website management... Up to now, she has become "multi-talented" from building communication plans, preparing for events to directly "working" with a pen and camera at events...
Special Mission
According to the Media Team, propaganda activities about the Relic Site need to ensure accuracy and timeliness, while also being creative and lively to create an impression that attracts people’s attention. Each member, in addition to having a little bit of personal talent, also needs to have “ political sensitivity” and flexibility when working.
“With limited equipment, we try to make the most of the resources we can mobilize. For example, if we lack flycams to record events at the relic site, we ask for documents from newspapers and radio stations as a source of information. Not only do the members of the Media Team try to work quickly and accurately, but all the staff of the agency also join hands to spread and share articles and images about the relic site with the spirit that each person is an ambassador of the relic site.”

Communication activities are very diverse, from live explanations, thematic talks, competitions about Uncle Ho... In recent years, online propaganda channels have been promoted, increasing the updating of information about the Relic Site and strengthening connections with the people.
“Every year, Kim Lien Relic Site welcomes 1.7 - 2 million visitors, on average hundreds of groups per day, and at peak times up to thousands of groups per day. All staff of the Relic Site are working at full capacity regardless of holidays and Tet. Members of the Media Team also have to complete professional tasks, including guides, visitors, preservationists... Sometimes, we have to wait until evening to have time to research and do media work. But everyone works enthusiastically with a spirit of initiative and responsibility, with the desire to best spread the heritage values of Uncle Ho and his family and homeland,” Ms. Quy shared.
Behind the scenes of "special" footage
A media “specialty” at Kim Lien Relic Site in recent years is online exhibition films such as: “Ho Chi Minh City - Love in Cooperation and Development”, “Mrs. Hoang Thi Loan - A Lotus of Life”, “Echoes of Dien Bien”, “Uncle Ho's Testament - A Torch to Light the Way”... Many films are highly appreciated, contributing to the awards of Kim Lien Relic Site in the work of propagating Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and style.
The author of the above amateur but very popular films is Mr. Nguyen Duc Hung, an officer of the Collection, Inventory, Preservation and Exhibition Department. Working at the Relic Site since 2005, in addition to his professional work, he also works at the Data Center: filming, taking photos, archiving documents related to Uncle Ho, high-ranking delegations visiting Uncle Ho's hometown.... When the Media Team was established, Mr. Hung was "summoned" with the main task of editing online exhibition films, managing, posting on fanpages, making clips for the Propaganda and Education Department to give talks on the relic site, about Uncle Ho...

After graduating from the Faculty of Literature, Mr. Hung also had to learn about filming techniques on his own... He said: “It was an extremely hard and difficult process for me because it was not my major. From someone who knew nothing about movies, software, and technical machines, I had to learn and explore on my own, while my time was limited. But because of the job requirements and my personal passion, I gradually mastered the techniques to serve my work.”
He said he had been practicing film editing since 2010, but it took many years before he had “watchable” footage. From the content and materials of live exhibitions, Mr. Hung captured and conveyed the “soul” of the exhibition, exploiting additional materials to create films.
It is difficult to tell all the silent hardships of this film editing job. In the beginning, to complete a film of less than 10 minutes, Mr. Hung "struggled" for nearly a month, partly because he had no skills, partly because of the lack of machinery and equipment. Now that he has more skills, each work requires Mr. Hung's meticulous work from forming ideas, writing scripts, editing sounds, editing images, searching for documents...
“I think that film footage is one of the most vivid and visually impactful forms of propaganda. My fellow commentators and I always encourage each other to do our best for the common good, to show the “uniqueness” of the Kim Lien Relic Site, to bring people the most accurate, familiar, and easy-to-understand approaches, contributing to promoting the common value of Uncle Ho to people and tourists from all over the world,” Mr. Hung shared.

Mr. Hung and Ms. Quy are two of the nine current members of the Media Team at the Relic Site. The work is non-professional, regardless of hours, and without special benefits, but the members are not afraid of hardship and are enthusiastic in their dedication. In addition to their work responsibilities, each person carries within them the honor of contributing to building an increasingly closer and more impressive bridge between the Kim Lien Relic Site and the people, contributing to spreading more strongly the heritage values and the ideology, morality and style of President Ho Chi Minh.
