Tran Quyet Chien is in good form.

In the final match of Group B - Round 32 of the Seoul Billiards World Cup 2024 on the afternoon of November 8, Tran Quyet Chien faced the host Korean player Seo Chang-hoon. Before entering the final match of Group B, Tran Quyet Chien had won 2 extremely convincing victories, respectively against Roland Forthomme (Belgium) and Jeong Ye-sung (Korea). Quyet Chien defeated Forthomme 40-27, after 21 rounds. Vietnam's No. 1 player defeated Jeong Ye-sung with a score difference of 40-19, after only 13 rounds.

With 2 wins, Tran Quyet Chien quickly secured a ticket to the round of 16, regardless of the result of the last match (because each group took 2 players to continue). Therefore, the player born in 1984 was in an extremely comfortable mood and entered the match well with a 7-point series when facing Seo Chang-hoon. On the other side, the home player from Korea had a 5-point series in the 6th round, shortening the gap to 8-9.

Tran Quyet Chien showed great form, entering the knockout round of the Seoul 2024 World Cup billiards with the first place in Group B.

Tran Quyet Chien controlled the game well, leading 16-8 against Seo Chang-hoon. The 40-year-old player brought the match into halftime in the 9th inning, leading 20-8.

In the first few shots of the second set, Tran Quyet Chien was slow. Taking advantage of the opportunity, Seo Chang-hoon chased and narrowed the gap to 5 points, trailing 18-23 after 16 shots. But immediately after that, the Vietnamese player scored a series of 5 points to take the lead 28-20.

Tran Quyet Chien continued to widen the gap, leading 31-22, 37-22... Vietnam's No. 1 player ended the match in the 28th round, winning 40-24 against Seo Chang-hoon. Thus, Quyet Chien advanced to the round of 16 of the Seoul Billiards World Cup 2024 with a perfect record of winning all 3 matches and taking first place in Group B. He is also the first Vietnamese representative to participate in the round of 16 for the strongest players.

Besides Tran Quyet Chien, the second-placed player in Group B, Roland Forthomme (Belgium), also participated in the knockout round, with a record of 2 wins and 1 loss. Other outstanding players who have also secured tickets to the round of 16 of the Seoul 2024 Billiards World Cup are Cho Myung-woo (Korea), Tasdemir Tayfun (Türkiye), Sameh Sidom (Egypt).

Bright door to protect the score

Entering the round of 16 of the Seoul 2024 Billiards World Cup, Tran Quyet Chien is close to successfully defending his current score on the rankings. Accordingly, Quyet Chien is forced to advance to the quarterfinals to maintain 380 points, thereby having hope of returning to the world No. 1 position (if he advances further).

At present, Tran Quyet Chien is ranked No. 2 in the world with 380 points. Meanwhile, the leader on the rankings is Dick Jaspers (Netherlands), with 426 points. The gap of 46 points can be completely filled if Tran Quyet Chien goes deep in the 2024 Seoul Billiards World Cup. At the tournament taking place in Korea, Dick Jaspers also defended the same score as Tran Quyet Chien, 26 points (meaning he must reach the quarterfinals).

Round 16 will be played in a knockout format. Each match will be for 50 points, with no equal turns. Tran Quyet Chien will compete in the round of 16 of the Seoul Billiards World Cup 2024 on November 9. If he wins the round of 16, Vietnam's number 1 player will continue to compete in the quarter-finals on the same afternoon.
