US President calls for support for Ukraine in State of the Union address

According to CNN, US President Joe Biden delivered the State of the Union address to the two houses of Congress . This was President Joe Biden's third State of the Union address since taking office in early 2021. This event took place in the context of Mr. Biden's overwhelming victories in the Super Tuesday primaries on March 5.

At the beginning of his message, Mr. Biden said that the US was facing an “unprecedented moment”; emphasizing that Ukraine needed military aid and did not require Washington to deploy troops to support it. “There are no American soldiers fighting in Ukraine and I will keep it that way,” he affirmed.

Biden called for an immediate six-week ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, warning Tel Aviv not to use aid as a “bargaining chip.” The US president also announced that the US military would set up a bridgehead off the Gaza coast to facilitate the delivery of aid, adding that no US troops would set foot in the Gaza Strip.

Mr. Biden recalled the incident that occurred on January 6, 2021, when radical protesters supporting former President Trump rioted at the US Congress headquarters on Capitol Hill to prevent lawmakers from approving the results of the 2020 presidential election. Mr. Biden also accused Mr. Trump and the Republican Party of trying to "bury the truth" about this incident.

Biden also attacked Trump for the Supreme Court's decision to overturn a woman's right to abortion in 2022. He pledged to restore women's rights to abortion in US law. According to the White House leader, this is an issue that attracts the attention of many voters in the 2022 midterm elections and will continue to be an important topic in the US presidential election in November this year.
