According to the State Bank of Vietnam 's Ho Chi Minh City branch, the total outstanding loan balance of credit institutions in the new rural development program in the area reached over 84,500 billion VND.
The proportion of outstanding loans from credit institutions in the new rural development program in Ho Chi Minh City increased by 13% by the end of October 2024 compared to the end of 2023, accounting for 24% of the total outstanding loans in the agriculture and rural sector in the city.
Mr. Nguyen Duc Lenh, Deputy Director of the State Bank of Vietnam's Ho Chi Minh City branch, stated that bank credit plays a crucial role in developing rural infrastructure in suburban areas, shifting the economic structure, alleviating poverty, and ensuring social security in the city.
Of the total investment capital in the city's new rural development program, bank credit consistently accounts for a high proportion, approximately over 60%. This result reflects the role of bank credit in the new rural development program in the area.
The new rural development program, linked with the development of a good infrastructure system, connecting regions within the area, and especially with socio-economic development, has transformed suburban rural areas into attractive tourist destinations associated with ecotourism, orchards, farms, cuisine, traditional crafts, geographical location, and historical relics. Among these, the image of "beautiful countryside" from the new rural development program in Cu Chi, Binh Chanh, Thu Duc City, and Hoc Mon districts is becoming a highlight attracting tourists to Ho Chi Minh City.
In addition, policy credit through the Social Policy Bank for the new rural development program in Ho Chi Minh City also reached over 11,617 billion VND, accounting for 13.7% of the total outstanding loans for new rural development. This contributed to providing individuals and policy-beneficiary families with capital for production and business, poverty reduction, economic development, and the development of new rural areas and agricultural and rural tourism.
