Oranges are in season and fetching good prices.
Ms. Tran Thi Tuyet's family in Nhat Tan village, Dong Loc commune, owns over 500 orange trees, all of which are now in the stable harvesting stage. This year, despite being affected by storms, thanks to the strict application of safe care procedures, the family's orange orchard yielded over 20 tons, a significant increase compared to previous years. Currently, the oranges are being purchased by traders at the orchard at prices ranging from 60,000 to 70,000 VND/kg, expected to bring in an income of approximately 1 billion VND.

Ms. Tuyet said that to produce quality products, her family persistently follows organic farming methods, minimizing the use of chemical fertilizers and prioritizing the use of well-rotted manure, microbial preparations, and biological methods to control pests and diseases. Simultaneously, the family invested in a drip irrigation system to save water, reduce labor, and ensure the plants always receive the appropriate moisture. In particular, the garden area is equipped with surveillance cameras to monitor the care and harvesting process and control production safety, further building trust with customers.
Having been involved in orange cultivation for over 20 years, Ms. Phan Thi Hien in Anh Hung village (Dong Loc commune) has never witnessed a year with such high yields as this year. With over 1,300 orange trees currently bearing fruit, Ms. Hien expects to harvest approximately 75 tons, an increase of about 15 tons compared to last year. Right at the beginning of the season, traders have come directly to the orchard to buy the oranges, with prices fluctuating around 60,000 VND/kg, about 20% higher than the same period last year.

Ms. Hien said that if it weren't for the storms, the yield would have been even higher. This year is a leap year, so the selling period will be longer. Therefore, her family is not in a hurry to sell everything, but only selectively harvest the ripest oranges, continuing to care for them and maintain the sweetness of the fruit to sell at a better price at the end of the year. Thanks to maintaining a stable orange orchard and good quality oranges, this year many traders from Hanoi , Hai Phong, and Da Nang placed early orders, ensuring stable sales and higher profits compared to previous years.
Applying digital platforms to consumption.
Sharing in the joy of a bountiful harvest of crisp oranges, the Tra Son Cooperative (Dong Loc commune) recently participated in a livestream sales event organized by the Ha Tinh Review channel in collaboration with the Dong Loc Commune Youth Union. This activity is considered a novel step in the strategy of promoting the Xuan Hoa orange brand to the nationwide market and expanding the customer base through digital commerce channels. With the advantage of being a 4-star OCOP product, Xuan Hoa oranges quickly attracted viewers and secured many orders during the livestream, maintaining a stable selling price of 70,000 VND/kg.

Mr. Nguyen Xuan Hoa, representative of Tra Son Cooperative, said that the cooperative is currently collaborating with 69 households, cultivating over 100 hectares of oranges, including 26 hectares of crisp oranges that have entered the harvest season. This year, the average orange yield of the affiliated households reached 12-15 tons/ha, significantly higher than last year.
"Through the livestream, we not only sold our products but also learned new ways of marketing and selling, especially how to bring agricultural products onto digital platforms to reach customers faster and more effectively," Mr. Hoa shared.
Currently, Dong Loc commune is entering its peak harvest season with 350 hectares of crisp oranges, concentrated mainly in the villages of Anh Hung, Khe Tho, Trai Tieu, Nam Phong, Thanh My, etc. Although the weather has been unfavorable this year, the people have proactively applied appropriate care measures, intensified pest and disease control, and protected their orchards according to proper technical procedures. In addition, the local government is promoting improved product quality and food safety, thereby contributing to consolidating and developing the Thuong Loc crisp orange brand in the market.

Thanks to the proactive efforts of the people and the focus on safe production, this year's orange yield and quality are both high, with beautiful, crisp fruit retaining its characteristic flavor. Traders have given positive feedback and have been actively purchasing the fruit since the beginning of the season. According to many orange growers, this year's selling price has increased by about 10% compared to the previous season, ranging from 60,000 to 70,000 VND/kg depending on the variety. With an estimated total orange production of over 2,500 tons in the commune, the total economic value generated is approximately 210 billion VND.
To boost consumption, Dong Loc commune has actively collaborated with local people in promoting products, accelerating the application of digital technology, and expanding trade promotion channels. As a result, the market has expanded, product outlets have become increasingly stable, creating motivation for people to confidently invest in and develop the growing area.

In the coming period, Dong Loc commune will continue to focus on expanding the area of new orange orchards, while encouraging people to renovate and restore degraded orange orchards to improve production efficiency. The locality will also coordinate with specialized departments to organize training courses, transfer scientific and technical advancements, and raise people's awareness of building and developing product brands. This will maximize the advantages of orange cultivation and aim for sustainable economic development.
