The delegation included Ms. Luan Thuy Duong, former Vietnamese Ambassador to Myanmar, along with representatives of businesses and members of the Association.
Mr. Soe Ko Ko, Charge d'Affaires of the Myanmar Embassy in Vietnam, received the support money from the Association.
Speaking at the donation ceremony, Mr. Chu Cong Phung said: In 2020, when the Covid-19 pandemic broke out, the Association went to the Myanmar Embassy in Vietnam to donate VND540,750 million and medical supplies to support the people of the neighboring country. Now, as Myanmar continues to suffer from natural disasters, the Association continues to promote the spirit of mutual love, calling for the cooperation of members, businesses and close friends in both Vietnam and Myanmar.

He emphasized that due to difficulties in transporting goods from Vietnam to Myanmar, the Association has flexibly proposed that members and businesses in Myanmar provide direct support on the spot, while in Vietnam, they focus on cash donations. He expressed his belief that Myanmar will soon overcome difficulties and recover from natural disasters, thereby creating conditions to further promote practical and effective cooperation between the two countries as well as in the region.
The 7.7-magnitude earthquake that struck on March 28 killed more than 3,600 people, injured more than 5,000, and left hundreds missing, said Soe Ko Ko, adding that infrastructure in many areas was severely damaged.
He expressed his gratitude for the solidarity and prompt and practical support of the Vietnamese Government and people. The Vietnamese Government has sent rescue forces to Myanmar along with medical equipment, food and many other necessities. In addition, many Vietnamese people living in Myanmar have also come to the Vietnamese Embassy to support the local people.
"The timely assistance of the Vietnamese Government and people is a great source of encouragement for Myanmar at this time, demonstrating the increasingly strong friendship and cooperation between the two countries," said Mr. Soe Ko Ko.
Speaking to Thoi Dai Magazine, Mr. Chu Cong Phung said that besides members and businesses, many close friends, acquaintances and students - although not directly involved in the Association - also actively participated in supporting. That demonstrated the spirit of solidarity and deep affection between the two nations in times of trouble. He also affirmed that in the coming time, the Association will publicly and transparently record the entire process of receiving and allocating support resources, in order to ensure trust and responsibility towards the organizations and individuals who have accompanied it. |
