On the evening of October 14, in Hanoi, Mr. Olivier Brochet - Ambassador of the Republic of France, on behalf of the French Government , awarded the "Order of the Academic Palm" to Professor Nguyen Huu Tu - Rector of Hanoi Medical University.

The medal is a recognition of Professor Nguyen Huu Tu's contributions to the development of Francophone cooperation in Vietnam and especially Franco-Vietnamese medical training cooperation.
Over the years, as Vice Rector in charge of University Training, Head of the French Language Program at Hanoi Medical University and then Rector of Hanoi Medical University, Professor Nguyen Huu Tu has made many contributions in connecting and building cooperative exchange programs for training, student and lecturer exchanges with prestigious and long-standing universities and institutes in France such as Sorbonne University, Montpellier Medical University, Aix Marseille Medical University, etc.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Olivier Brochet - Ambassador of the Republic of France to Vietnam emphasized that the Francophone community is an essential driving force to solve health challenges. In the context of major changes in demographics and technology, Vietnam needs to continue to innovate in its approach to health care, through medical training or scientific research.
Generations of French-speaking doctors in Vietnam played an important role in this transition. They used their experience in France to help modernize medical practice in Vietnam and bring a French-language perspective to medical examination and treatment, helping to enhance the professional vision of the medical team.
“Recent health crises, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, have reminded us of the importance of working together to confront threats that know no borders. It is in this context that the Franco-Vietnamese cooperation fully develops its significance. The Francophone community, as a mechanism to promote dialogue and sharing, allows us to build common and innovative solutions together,” said the Ambassador of the French Republic to Vietnam.
Franco-Vietnamese scientific research must also be strengthened to meet the challenges of the future. Cooperation in the fields of public health, prevention of infectious diseases and climate change is at the heart of France’s priorities expressed around the “One Health” approach. The French Embassy is committed to standing side by side with Vietnam to support this dynamism by enhancing exchanges, facilitating cooperation projects and accompanying upcoming activities.
Professor Nguyen Huu Tu emphasized that over the past 122 years, Hanoi Medical University, with its first President, Dr. Alexandre Yersin, a prominent French scientist and honorary citizen of Vietnam, has always been a historical, vivid and effective symbol of the French-Vietnamese medical relationship and cooperation. Recognizing the importance of the French-Vietnamese cooperation in medicine, the responsibility to future generations as well as gratitude for what has been received from French teachers and colleagues, over the past 15 years, he and the school's leaders, teachers and generations of students have constantly strived to overcome all difficulties and challenges to build and develop many training and cooperation activities to create a solid foundation for comprehensive cooperation and development in medicine between Vietnam and France.
Up to now, Hanoi Medical University has conferred the title of honorary professor to more than 30 French professors; organized inter-university French-language specialist doctor classes, continuous training classes, organized lecturer exchanges; organized the French-Vietnamese Medical Forum... Hanoi Medical University is also an active member of many networks of French-language universities in the world such as CIDMEF, AUFEMO, AUF...
Also at the ceremony, the "Club of Former Doctors and Pharmacists Studying in the French Republic" was established, which is a place to share and update information on Vietnam-France medical cooperation, a foundation to promote the younger generation to continue to develop and inherit the good tradition in medical and pharmaceutical training between Vietnam and France.
The club's launch at the Embassy of the French Republic in Hanoi marks the success of the medical training cooperation program between France and Vietnam./.
Since 1993, with the support of the French Government, many medical training projects, expert exchanges, and provision of medical equipment and medicines have been implemented.
The training programs for doctors and pharmacists in France, inter-university training in Vietnam, and support for the development of university hospital centers (CHU) in Hanoi… have not only contributed to the modernization of the Vietnamese health system but have also trained thousands of excellent specialists for the country. Many of them have become leading experts in their fields, holding important positions in the health sector.
