The play "Truy tam" by author and director Meritorious Artist Vu Xuan Trang, inspired by the Korean film "A Normal Family", had a preview performance on the evening of November 3 at the Experimental Stage of the Ho Chi Minh City Dance College.

Invested by Xom Kich Theater, the play is entertaining and a journey deep into the dark areas of the human soul — where conscience, morality and family ties collide fiercely.

Trinh Kim Chi, Trung Dung - The tragedy of "perfect" families

Right from the opening beat, "Truy tam" created a tense, suffocating atmosphere, making the audience watch silently.

A tragedy began when two children from two prestigious families – Gia Bao and Kieu Anh – caused a serious incident. Instead of letting their children take responsibility, the parents chose to cover up the truth to protect their reputation.

From there, a series of psychological tragedies unfold, with painful questions: In a similar situation, how would we behave? Director Vu Xuan Trang skillfully guides viewers through layers of emotions from love, fear, torment to collapse.

The more they try to hide, the more the characters are pushed into a dead end. And just when they think they are safest, they have to face the naked truth of selfishness and eroded morality.

Artist Hoang Thy always creates opportunities for young actors who are students to transform into difficult roles.

Vu Xuan Trang - Dramatic peak - haunting emotions

With a tight script, "Truy tam" is one of the rare plays of contemporary theater that looks directly at the issue of educating children from the family home.

Emotions are pushed up every minute, every line makes the audience unable to take their eyes off. The unexpected twist at the end of the play when the truth is revealed, and all "masks" are stripped off - is a direct attack on the audience's perception: "Don't just leave your children a title and property, leave them with kindness and love."

No longer a story of the upper class, "Truy tâm" reflects a widespread social disease that is justifying and covering up the mistakes of relatives, and the belief that money can solve all problems. If parents do not wake up, they will harm their children.

People's Artist Trinh Kim Chi and Quoc Huy, two emotional roles in the play "Truy tam"

Acting is the soul of "Truy tam"

The talented cast contributed to the weight of the play: Trung Dung, Trinh Kim Chi, Vu Xuan Trang, Hoang Thy and young actors Quoc Huy, Nhat Quan, Minh Nhat, Huyen My, May Trinh, Duong Anh Thy blended together in breathtaking, conflict-filled dialogues.

Quoc Huy as Gia Bao is the highlight – his character is the image of a young man whose emotions are suffocated by his parents’ expectations. The more he tries to prove himself, the more he gets lost in distorted, sick behaviors.

Quoc Huy's performance has clear psychological weight, both cold and insecure, making the audience shiver.

Veteran actors such as People's Artist Trinh Kim Chi and Artist Trung Dung bring a tragic contrast: on one side is a mother in pain because of blind love, on the other side is a father struggling between morality and honor as a lawyer.

All blend into the tense performance, where every look, every silence contains thousands of hidden meanings.

Vu Xuan Trang - Subtle Vietnamese translation and strong message

Although inspired by a Korean film, director Vu Xuan Trang has subtly adapted it to Vietnam. "Truy tam" tells the story of wealthy people and reflects the lives of many Vietnamese families today - where parents are so busy making money that they forget the most important thing: nurturing their children's souls.

The struggle between "reason - love", between "justice - honor" is portrayed in a simple but sharp stage language. Each layer of acting, light, sound and music are used sparingly, highlighting the hidden waves in the character's inner mind.

When the stage becomes a mirror of society, "Truy tam" is not a play to watch for fun.

It makes people "live with the characters" and question themselves. Hidden in the story that seems to be just a family tragedy, is a great message about responsibility, humanity and the limits of power in educating children.

Xom Kich Stage once again affirms the right direction: investing in psychological and social plays with humanistic values, awakening the conscience of the audience.

Meritorious Artist Vu Xuan Trang creates opportunities for young actors to shine in the play "Truy tam"

The expectation after watching the play "Truy tam" when the audience leaves is contemplation. Because in a noisy society and upside down values, the work has reminded us that: Conscience is the only thing that cannot be covered up and love is the only thing that can save people.
