On the afternoon of June 17, Mr. Dam Hai Van - Head of Nha Trang Bay Management Board - said that the authorities are working to salvage a barge buried under the sand at the beach area opposite 80 Tran Phu Street.
The barge salvage is expected to be completed in early July 2025, to ensure safety for residents and tourists swimming in this area.
The process of salvaging the barge includes using a sand suction machine around the barge, using equipment to cut metal to create holes for cable hooks, then using a truck to excavate the shore to create a trench the size of the barge, using specialized equipment to divide the barge into smaller pieces and bring it ashore. The salvaging is expected to take place in 15 - 20 days.
It is known that this area is where an incident occurred where a barge more than 30m long ran aground and had engine failure at the end of 2019, and is now completely submerged under the sand.
Under the influence of ebb and flow of the tide, the impact of sea waves exposes and raises above the sand sharp edges of the barge's bow, which can cause injuries to people.
