Secondary school in Ca Mau accused of illegally collecting tutoring fees from students

On September 18, Mr. Tran Minh Quang (residing in Dong Hai commune, Ca Mau province) said that he had just received a response from the Department of Education and Training (DoET) of Ca Mau in response to the petition and reflection of 4 contents related to Ta Tai Loi Secondary School (Dong Hai commune). Through verification, the Department determined that 2 contents of the reflection were correct, 1 content was partially correct, the remaining content was waiting for opinions from related parties.

The content of Mr. Quang's reflection was verified by the Department of Education and Training of Ca Mau as correct, including the school organizing 2 teaching sessions/day not in accordance with regulations; the Principal integrating some additional subjects into the official curriculum not in accordance with regulations.

Regarding Ta Tai Loi Secondary School collecting tutoring fees for weak students, the Department of Education and Training of Ca Mau determined that it was partly correct, because the school did not have students with weak results, only a few students were assessed as not achieving in some subjects.

With the request for the school to return to parents the tuition fees that were collected in violation of regulations in recent years, the Department of Education and Training of Ca Mau has asked the Principal of Ta Tai Loi Secondary School to consult with relevant parties to handle the matter, especially the fees collected from teaching 2 sessions/day which are not in accordance with regulations.

Also related to the above reflections of Mr. Tran Minh Quang on some violations at Ta Tai Loi Secondary School, before the merger of Bac Lieu and Ca Mau provinces, the old Bac Lieu Department of Education and Training had a conclusion.

However, the conclusion of the old Bac Lieu determined that the organization of extra teaching, extra learning, and tutoring with fees by the school as reflected was correct (instead of the content of tutoring weak students with fees by the school being partially correct as concluded by the Department of Education and Training of Ca Mau province).

Also in the previous conclusion, the Department of Education and Training of Bac Lieu proposed that the People's Committee of the old Dong Hai district consider and handle the responsibility of the Principal of Ta Tai Loi Secondary School according to regulations.
