According to Director - Meritorious Artist Le Nguyen Dat, Party Secretary, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Ho Chi Minh City University of Theatre and Cinema, after a period of interruption due to not being allowed to enroll students at intermediate and college levels according to regulations, in the coming school year, the school has been allowed to enroll students at college level in the Cai Luong Stage Actor major, with a training period of 3 years. Candidates admitted to the Opera Stage Actor major will receive a 70% reduction in tuition fees along with many support programs and scholarships throughout the course.
“Previously, in 2021, the School had developed a plan to enroll college-level students for this major, but then due to the Covid-19 pandemic, it was temporarily suspended. By this school year, the School has met all the conditions to enroll students, which is also a common joy for artists after a long period of suspension of enrollment, causing a shortage of human resources and qualified and well-trained cai luong stage actors,” said Meritorious Artist Le Nguyen Dat.
Accordingly, in the 2023-2024 school year, the School has been permitted to train college-level Stage Actors (Reformed Actors) with 30 quotas. The admission targets are candidates nationwide aged 18-27; have graduated from high school in the form of formaleducation or continuing education, professional secondary school, vocational secondary school, vocational secondary school.
Candidates will take an aptitude test and be selected for the Literature subject (grade 12 transcript score must be 5 points or higher). Accordingly, for the aptitude test, candidates will take 2 tests: Voice - body and acting. For the voice - body test, candidates will be tested on musical sense, rhythm, sing 1 traditional song of their choice and 2 happy and sad melodies; and dance movements according to the requirements of the judges. For the acting test, candidates will perform a stage work according to the exam, without a second person (no more than 10 minutes); candidates will demonstrate situations according to the requirements of the judges and answer questions related to the art of Cai Luong.

According to the 2023 University Admissions Plan announced earlier, this year, Ho Chi Minh City University of Theater and Cinematography will enroll 95 students for 4 university-level majors including Stage Director; Drama, Film and Television Actor; Film and Television Director and Cinematography. The preliminary exam period is from July 2-3, the general exam period is from July 4-6. Candidates applying for college entrance exam for Stage and Drama Actor (Cai Luong Actor) do not take the preliminary exam.
