On August 19, 1968, the American invaders bombed the classroom of class 9A at Ly Tu Trong High School (Viet Tien commune, Thach Ha district, Ha Tinh province ), taking the lives of 16 innocent students.

Leaders from Thach Ha district, the Department of Education and Training, Viet Tien commune, and a large number of local people attended the memorial ceremony.
On August 19, 1968, a fateful bomb fell on the classroom of class 9A at Ly Tu Trong High School, in Ninh hamlet (now Trua village), Viet Tien commune, claiming the lives of 16 innocent students and leaving behind immeasurable wounds and pain for their families, relatives, and those who remained.
A memorial service and incense offering were held to commemorate the 16 students killed by American bombs.
In 2009, the Ly Tu Trong High School War Crimes Memorial Site was constructed with funding from the provincial budget, becoming a historical site for commemoration and a destination for tourists and researchers.
Through the process of construction and development, under the efforts of the Party Committee and the people of the commune, and with the attention and assistance of all levels, sectors, and former students, in 2015, the Ly Tu Trong High School War Crimes Memorial Site was recognized by the People's Committee of Ha Tinh province as a provincial-level historical and cultural relic. To date, the relic site's grounds have been expanded, ensuring a spacious and solemn environment.
In 2022, the memorial at the historical site was renovated with a budget of over 1.1 billion VND from social contributions.
At the ceremony, delegates and the people offered incense and fresh flowers in remembrance of the 16 students of Ly Tu Trong High School from the past; recalling memories, the ups and downs of history, the difficult days of living and studying under the protection of the people, and from there vowing to work together to strive for a more beautiful society.
