The sea and islands are an inseparable part of the Fatherland, a living space and also a gateway for the country to integrate and develop. The sea and islands not only bring great economic benefits but also hold a particularly important strategic position in terms of national defense and security.
In the context of the complicated developments in the East Sea in recent years, the task of firmly protecting the sovereignty of the sea and islands of the Fatherland has become more urgent, a sacred and noble task of the entire Party and people, in which coastal fishermen play a very important role.

Dak Lak province has a coastline of 189 km, with about 3,000 fishing boats, of which nearly 700 boats specialize in offshore fishing. For a long time, Dak Lak fishermen have always persevered in going offshore and are also a famous locality in the country for ocean tuna fishing.
Each year, the province's marine fishery output reaches about 65,000 - 75,000 tons, ocean tuna about 4,000 tons, creating regular jobs and stable income for tens of thousands of fishermen, contributing greatly to the development of our country's marine economy.
Dak Lak fishermen not only earn a living by catching seafood but are also the core force going offshore to help affirm sovereignty over seas and islands and participate in protecting the country.

At the conference, leaders of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Border Guard Command disseminated legal regulations related to combating illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing. At the same time, they guided fishermen to understand and comply with the law to contribute to removing the European Commission's yellow card warning on Vietnamese seafood.
Along with that, environmental experts have pointed out the current situation of plastic waste pollution, calling on fishermen and coastal residents to take action to reduce plastic waste, especially ocean plastic waste, contributing to protecting the marine and island environment and public health.
