Urban resilience in border areas

With both sea and islands and a border with Cambodia, and blessed with many scenic spots by nature, Ha Tien ward has been focusing investment resources, striving to become the center of marine economy, tourism, and border trade of the province.

Exploiting potential

Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Committee of Ha Tien Ward Tran Hai Quoc said that, promoting existing advantages, the locality has effectively mobilized resources to develop key economic sectors (trade, services, tourism), while investing in completing socio-economic infrastructure, exploiting the potential of border trade and sea tourism. Thanks to that, the economic development space has been increasingly expanded, harmoniously connecting the border and the sea. The economic structure has shifted in the right direction, in which trade, services, and tourism continue to affirm their role as key sectors.

During the 2020 - 2025 term, the total production value of economic sectors reached 58,829 billion VND, the proportion of trade, services and tourism accounted for 81.18% (equivalent to 47,760 billion VND); service and tourism revenue reached 14,507 billion VND; total import and export turnover was nearly 443 million USD, of which export was more than 337 million USD, import was more than 105.6 million USD.

The ward has focused on investing in tourism infrastructure, with a total budget of more than 46 billion VND for projects to renovate and upgrade Mui Nai, Thach Dong, Da Dung tourist areas, etc. A number of urban and resort projects have been formed and put into operation, contributing to attracting tourists, diversifying entertainment needs, and expanding investment opportunities.

Traffic and urban infrastructure continues to be completed with key projects: Nguyen Phuc Chu Street, road to Ha Tien International Border Gate, road leading to Ha Tien general port, etc. Planning and management of coastal resources and environment are strengthened; infrastructure of border gate economic zones is gradually taking shape, creating the premise for Ha Tien to become an important transit point for goods in the region.

Mr. Danh Chanh Thi - Director of Mekong Ha Tien Tourism One Member Limited Liability Company commented: "Ha Tien tourism has had many bright spots in recent years, especially in the upgraded transport and tourism infrastructure. We are promoting the exploitation of sea and island tours, Ha Tien - Cambodia - Thailand tours by road; eco-tours, local cultural experiences... When the infrastructure is developed and the quality of services is upgraded, Ha Tien will become an attractive destination for domestic and international tourists."

Many key, breakthrough solutions

Mr. Tran Hai Quoc said that the development orientation from now to 2030, Ha Tien will become the center of marine economy, tourism and border trade of the province. To realize the aspiration, the Ward Party Committee focuses on synchronously implementing key solutions, breakthroughs in socio-economic development, focusing on investment in the fields of tourism, border trade economy, and marine economy. The Ward mobilizes maximum social resources to invest in completing the infrastructure system. At the same time, it promotes calling for potential and reputable investors in the fields of tourism, services, and marine economy to participate in sea reclamation projects, develop artificial islands and island clusters, build resorts, and high-class services of regional scale.

To stimulate tourism development, the local government has many solutions to improve quality, build tourism brands; develop green and sustainable tourism; invest in and restore historical and cultural relics to preserve and promote local values. In the field of marine economy, the ward focuses on promoting the development of industrial shrimp farming in Dong Ho and My Duc areas, encouraging the conversion of extensive shrimp farming models to high-tech industrial shrimp farming.

Ha Tien is identified as one of the five key driving forces of An Giang province. In the coming time, the ward will continue to mobilize resources to strongly develop border trade and logistics services; invest in completing traffic infrastructure connecting border gates and general seaports; call for and attract investment in border gate economic zones; support and create favorable conditions for businesses to export goods to Cambodia and Thailand.

With the right direction and high determination, Ha Tien is gradually promoting its sea and border advantages, becoming an attractive destination, a dynamic center of marine economy, tourism and trade in the Southwest region.
