Discover Denmark's Renaissance gem
Situated majestically on three small islands of Castle Lake in the town of Hillerød, Frederiksborg Castle appears like a building straight out of a fairy tale. Just 40 minutes by train from the center of Copenhagen, visitors will admire the largest Renaissance castle in Scandinavia, a "time machine" that takes you back 500 years of Danish history.

Built by King Christian IV in the early 17th century, the castle is a symbol of Danish power and prosperity. Its red brick exterior contrasts with its emerald green peaked roofs and hundreds of intricately arched windows, creating a harmonious beauty with the lake and surrounding landscape.
Highlights not to be missed
A journey through Frederiksborg is full of pleasant surprises, from the exterior architecture to the luxurious interior.
Exterior beauty and Neptune Fountain
As soon as you enter the main courtyard, you will be attracted by The Neptune Fountain, an exquisite sculpture completed in 1622. Although it is only a copy built in 1888 (the original was taken by the Swedish army), the work still clearly demonstrates the pinnacle of art at that time.

Royal Chapel and historic organ
A major fire in 1859 destroyed much of the interior, but the Frederiksborg Chapel miraculously survived. This is where Danish kings were anointed between 1660 and 1848. Inside, there is still a gold, silver and ebony altar from 1606 and the ancient Compenius organ built in 1610. Visitors can listen to the historic organ play its melody every Thursday at 1:30 p.m.

The Splendor of the Main Hall and Auditorium
The Main Hall and the Audience Hall were the ultimate displays of royal power. The ceilings were intricately carved with gilded patterns, the walls were hung with giant tapestries and large portraits. Natural light streamed through large windows, highlighting the opulence and high level of Renaissance craftsmanship.

National Museum of History
After the fire, Carlsberg founder JC Jacobsen funded the reconstruction and proposed the creation of a national history museum. Since 1878, the castle has been home to 500 years of Danish history through thousands of portraits, paintings, furniture and sculptures. Visitors can admire portraits of kings alongside works by famous artists.
