It was one of the most candid comments yet from a senior Ukrainian official after the US admitted it could no longer guarantee military aid to Ukraine. He said that if the aid was withheld, “there is a huge risk that we will lose this war.”

White House officials said Monday that the United States is running out of time and money to help Ukraine in its conflict with Russia. President Joe Biden’s administration in October asked Congress for nearly $106 billion to fund Ukraine, Israel and border security, but Republicans who control the House rejected the package.
Mr Yermak pointed to the dangers of losing financial and arms support for Ukraine. The Ukrainian government is expected to run a $43 billion budget deficit next year. “Of course, without this direct budget support, it will be difficult for us to maintain the status quo and… for people to survive,” he said.
Mr. Yermak, who is on his second visit to the United States in just a few weeks, said he plans to press U.S. lawmakers and officials about the importance of Congress approving a new aid package.
Ukraine has launched a major counteroffensive this year but has been unable to penetrate Russian defenses. Meanwhile, Russian forces are still pressing hard and showing dominance on Ukraine’s eastern fronts.
