Vietnam and Burundi agree to strengthen relations, focusing on trade and investment

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and President Evariste Ndayishimiye agreed to promote bilateral cooperation in the coming time, focusing on trade and investment cooperation.

On the occasion of attending the High-level General Debate of the 78th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, USA, on the afternoon of September 22 (local time), Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with Burundian President Evariste Ndayishimiye.

At the meeting, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized that Vietnam attaches importance to promoting friendship and cooperation with African countries, including Burundi. The Prime Minister welcomed and thanked the Burundian Government for supporting the telecommunications investment project of Vietnamese enterprises in Burundi, contributing to the socio-economic development of the locality.

The Prime Minister asked Burundi to create favorable conditions for Vietnamese enterprises to operate in Burundi. At the same time, the Prime Minister proposed that the two sides increase delegation exchanges, cooperation mechanisms between the two sides, and enhance trade and agricultural cooperation.

Burundian President Evariste Ndayishimiye warmly congratulated Vietnam on its important achievements in national construction and development, considering it a model for developing countries to follow.

President Evariste Ndayishimiye affirmed that Burundi attaches importance to developing relations with Vietnam, a potential partner in Southeast Asia, and agrees with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's proposals on promoting bilateral cooperation in the coming time, focusing on trade and investment cooperation.

The two sides agreed to continue to strengthen cooperation and support each other at multilateral forums as well as promote bridging cooperation between the two countries with ASEAN, the African Union (AU) and between ASEAN and the AU.

At the meeting, the two leaders discussed a number of international and regional issues of mutual concern, including the East Sea issue.

On this occasion, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh respectfully conveyed President Vo Van Thuong's invitation to President Evariste Ndayishimiye to visit Vietnam. The Burundian President happily accepted the invitation and looked forward to visiting Vietnam soon.
