Exhibition industry is a driving force for growth
Speaking at the workshop, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ho An Phong said that this is an opportunity for us to exchange, share and find a direction for the Vietnamese exhibition industry to make a breakthrough in the new period.
The exhibition and fair industry has become one of the important driving forces for economic growth, cultural exchange and international cooperation. This is a field that directly connects businesses, markets and consumers, and is also a bridge between knowledge, technology and creativity.
The Deputy Minister also said that for Vietnam, the exhibition industry not only has the main task of connecting trade, but is also closely linked to the development of cultural industries, entertainment and tourism . Exhibition events are also a space to spread cultural identity, inspire creativity, and thereby expand investment cooperation.
Over the years, the Party and State of Vietnam have always attached importance to the role of the private sector in socio-economic development. On May 4, 2025, the Politburo issued Resolution No. 68-NQ/TW on private economic development, affirming that the private economy is the most important driving force of the national economy.
The National Assembly and Government of Vietnam have issued many policies to create a favorable environment for businesses, including the exhibition and event organization sector.
At the Workshop, Deputy Minister Ho An Phong emphasized that in the coming period, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will continue to accompany businesses to implement a number of major orientations in the exhibition industry, including:
Firstly, develop the exhibition industry in association with the cultural and entertainment industry ecosystem, making exhibitions a place where creativity, art, technology and commerce converge.
Second, promote tourism through large-scale international tourism fairs, integrating exhibition events with promoting the image of Vietnam and its people, thereby attracting international tourists and expanding the market.
Third, developing modern, continental-scale exhibition centers such as the Vietnam Exhibition Center (VEC), capable of hosting international-scale events, and possessing a supporting service infrastructure system, especially in the field of MICE tourism, is considered a strategic direction to improve quality, increase value and affirm the Vietnamese tourism brand on the world map.
Fourth, promote public-private cooperation, encourage event organizing businesses, domestic and foreign investors to join the Government in building the brand "Vietnam - Asia's Exhibition Destination".
Set high expectations
At the Workshop, many delegates expressed their expectations for the exhibition and fair industry in Vietnam in the coming years.
Mr. Vu Ba Phu - Director of the Trade Promotion Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade) emphasized: Trade fairs and exhibitions are direct and effective bridges between businesses, between businesses and customers. This is also the form of trade promotion with the fastest and most sustainable spread.
The exhibition industry and related services are very important. If we gather them to organize in Vietnam, it will also increase the value of related service industries such as tourism, hotels, etc. - Mr. Vu Ba Phuc said.
Economist Can Van Luc commented that the birth of the Vietnam Exhibition Center has a great timing, which is on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the successful August Revolution and National Day September 2. Every day, about 200,000 domestic and foreign tourists check in, opening up a huge prospect for mice tourism.
Listing some economic milestones since 1945 that have always had significant growth, expert Can Van Luc believes that with this momentum, we will become a high-income country by 2045. He also assessed this as a valuable opportunity rather than a challenge for businesses and believes that Vietnam is a new destination for the future of Asian exhibitions.
Ms. Ramona Fischer, representative of GL Events, said: "We are a partner of many exhibitions, with more than 47 years of experience, over 3,000 major businesses. The 3 Exhibition sectors of the business provide for more than 1,000 of our activities in a year. This is the 13th largest contributing industry globally, contributing 621 billion dollars directly to the business events industry...
VEC is one of the top 10 largest exhibitions in the world. Vietnam is one of the 285 destinations in Asia, and also has a world-class convention center. Vietnam is ranked 11th in the conference industry, compared to Thailand, ranked 25th in the world.
The conference and exhibition industry has a lot of potential, requiring great international cooperation and we must have the mission to promote VEC as a classy, global destination."
Deputy Minister Ho An Phong emphasized that the success of the Exhibition industry not only comes from the efforts of the Government, but also depends greatly on the support of the business community, associations, and especially professional event organizers, strategic partners, and potential customers of the Vietnam Exhibition Center.
“I believe that with the determination of the Government, the dynamism of the private sector, and the cooperation of international partners, Vietnam can absolutely become a leading exhibition destination in Asia in the near future,” Deputy Minister Ho An Phong expressed.
