Agoda Vietnam Director Vu Ngoc Lam said that the platform's search data shows that the trend of mainland Chinese tourists traveling to Vietnam is showing signs of recovery.

Agoda statistics show that the number of searches from China to Vietnam during the Lunar New Year holiday has almost returned to pre-pandemic levels. Chinese tourists interested in traveling to Vietnam in 2024 will reach 95% compared to 2020 - the time before travel restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic were applied.

“The fact that search data during Tet this year is almost at pre-pandemic levels is a positive sign for Vietnam’s tourism industry. The renewed interest of mainland Chinese tourists is a sign of Vietnam’s tourism potential in the Year of the Dragon 2024,” said Mr. Vu Ngoc Lam.

Previously, in 2020, China was the top country in the list of countries searching for travel information in Vietnam. Tourists from this country choose Vietnam because of its rich culture and beautiful natural landscapes.

However, the COVID-19 pandemic broke out in 2021 and the border closures caused a serious decline in the number of these visitors to Vietnam. After reopening, the search rate for Vietnam by Chinese visitors in 2022 and 2023 was only 3% compared to 2020.

This year, Vietnam's tourism picture has shown signs of improvement when Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi , Nha Trang, Da Nang and Phu Quoc Island entered the top 5 choices of Chinese tourists, compared to the top 5 in 2020 which were Ho Chi Minh City, Nha Trang, Hanoi, Da Nang and Phan Thiet.

“We are very happy to see many Chinese tourists interested in Vietnam again. I believe that the diverse destination options along with the warm hospitality of the people will conquer international tourists,” said Mr. Vu Ngoc Lam.

Agoda's Vietnam Director assessed that Vietnam has also succeeded in attracting tourists from new markets such as India after reopening thanks to favorable visa policies. Thanks to this diversification of tourists, according to the General Statistics Office's report, Vietnam has achieved the target of total tourists in early 2023 in just the third quarter of 2023, which is expected to create momentum for the recovery of Vietnam's smokeless economy in 2024./.
