On the morning of November 17, at the headquarters of the National News Agency (No. 5 Ly Thuong Kiet, Hanoi ), the delegation of Vietnam News Agency worked with the delegation of students of the training class for leaders and managers of the press and propaganda of the Lao People's Democratic Republic on "The organization model and management mechanism of Vietnam News Agency."
Also attending were representatives from the Academy of Journalism and Communication (Vietnam).
This is part of the study and practical research program of the Lao delegation in Vietnam to meet development requirements in the new situation, taking place in the context of the two countries facing major changes.
Introducing an overview of the current model and organizational structure of Vietnam News Agency, Head of the Editorial and External Relations Secretariat Tran Thi Thang said that as the only news agency in Vietnam, Vietnam News Agency performs the function of a state news agency in broadcasting information and official documents of the Party and State; providing information to serve the leadership requirements of the Party and State management; collecting and disseminating information through various forms of media, serving mass media agencies, the public and interested parties at home and abroad.
After the merger, Vietnam News Agency now has 22 departments and equivalent units, 2 printing enterprises, 34 domestic permanent offices, 30 overseas permanent offices across 5 continents, more than 60 information products of all types. Vietnam News Agency cooperates with 40 international news agencies and press organizations; Vietnam News Agency's source news is broadcast to the world in 6 languages.
Since January 2025, Vietnam News Agency has stopped broadcasting the News Television Channel (Vnews); converted the model from producing and broadcasting television news to producing video news, providing it to the press system at home and abroad and broadcasting it on digital platforms to serve the public at large. This is in line with the current trend of public access to information.
Vietnam is synchronously implementing many solutions to build an effective, efficient and effective political apparatus, including the operation of a two-level local government. Recently, Vietnam News Agency has focused on ensuring the good performance of political tasks, providing information in accordance with the functions and tasks of a national news agency, meeting propaganda requirements in the new situation.
In the roadmap to reform and streamline the state management apparatus in Laos, in June 2025, the Lao Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism held a conference to announce the arrangement of the personnel organization; announced the decision to transfer functions and tasks of press management... Ms. Tran Thi Thang hopes that the Lao side will share experiences in streamlining the apparatus in the press field, as well as strategies and solutions to improve the operational efficiency of press agencies, meeting task requirements.
In particular, in the context of strong development of technology and social networking platforms, the issue of managing and handling fake information is a big challenge for press agencies. Vietnam News Agency has built specialized pages and in-depth information lines to provide official and timely sources of information to the public, contributing to orienting public opinion and improving the ability to identify fake news in society. Representatives of Vietnam News Agency also shared experiences in the multi-dimensional information verification process; ways to build fast and accurate feedback information; and refute false information.
Mr. Peng Latkhamphoumy, Deputy Head of the Propaganda Department of Salavan Provincial Party Committee, representing the delegation of leaders and managers of Lao press and media, thanked Vietnam News Agency for its thoughtful reception, and affirmed that the information shared at the meeting would be valuable experience for the propaganda sector and Lao press agencies to learn and refer to in the process of digital transformation, improving propaganda effectiveness.
At the meeting, the two sides discussed many key issues such as resolving difficulties in the operation of units after the merger; organizing and operating information activities of resident agencies at home and abroad; promoting digital transformation; improving the capacity of the reporter team; innovating information transmission forms in accordance with the requirements of propagating the Party and State's policies and guidelines on social networking platforms, as well as strengthening measures to handle fake news, toxic and untrue news, etc.
The friendly, open working atmosphere contributes to strengthening the traditional cooperative relationship between Vietnam News Agency and Lao propaganda and press units, opening up opportunities to exchange, learn experiences, develop modern, professional press, effectively serving the information and propaganda cause of the two countries Vietnam and Laos./.
