Japanese technology of mud reinforcement for landfill

According to information from Vingroup Corporation, on October 31, Can Gio Urban Tourism Joint Stock Company signed a contract with a consortium of contractors, represented by Vietnam Maritime Construction Investment Consulting Joint Stock Company (MCIC VIETNAM), to apply Japanese mud reinforcement technology for the Vinhomes Green Paradise project (Can Gio, Ho Chi Minh City).

This is not only the world's most modern construction technology in creating a solid foundation, but also excels in limiting environmental pollution, ensuring the project's particularly strict ESG++ criteria.

K-DPM (Kinetic Dry Pneumatic Mixing) pneumatic mixing technology for mud foundation reinforcement and sea encroachment construction is exclusively transferred by AOMI Construction Co., Ltd. - a leading Japanese engineering group to MCIC in Vietnam.

The technology was pioneered by engineer Akinori Sakamoto - who received the IADC international award for dredged sludge reclamation and has been applied in many large-scale projects around the world such as Chubu Airport Port, Nanao Port, Tokyo International Airport, Tokyo Haneda Airport (Japan); Pudon Airport (China); Marina Bay, Changi East Airport (Singapore); New York Harbor (USA)...

Emissions reduction

According to Vingroup, when applying this technology, the mud layer will be utilized on-site to reinforce the ground by using high-pressure air flow to mix the dredged mud with cement and special additives.

The process of converting sludge into landfill material is closed, fast and precise, and can be carried out right on a barge in the middle of the sea or on shore.

After only 5 hours, the soft mud layer will gradually harden enough to walk on the surface and after 28 days it will be 100% hardened, meeting the standards for filling materials and construction foundations.

Compared with conventional sand pumping construction, the cost of surface stabilization using K-DPM technology is 5-10 times higher, however, the sustainable value that the new technology brings to Can Gio sea area is outstanding.

Specifically, the amount of sludge that must be treated on-site will be minimized, thereby limiting indirect emissions from the transportation process, reducing odor pollution and water leakage into the surrounding environment, and not being dependent on natural sand.

This technology also contributes to greening the maritime industry and promoting a circular economic model in coastal infrastructure construction.

In addition, areas with mud pockets or weak geological foundations will also be treated with this technology to create stability, increase hardness, prevent subsidence and erosion.

In addition to mud improvement and reinforcement technology, during the foundation treatment process, Vinhomes Green Paradise also applies modern sandblasting technology combined with a special excavation-filling balance principle, which means that most of the filling materials are taken directly from water surface areas within the planning scope, then filled in for the mainland.

This is an optimal resource solution, minimizing offshore exploitation while minimizing the impact on the surrounding environment during the landfill phase.

In addition, to ensure the safety of the sea reclamation project, the project uses advanced water level control technology consulted by leading international experts from the Netherlands - a "giant" in sea reclamation projects, water management and coastal infrastructure development.

At the ESG ++ Super Urban Area seminar organized by Vingroup on the morning of October 23, Ms. Phan Thien Ly, Project Sales Director, said that this November, the project will complete phase 1 (filling the foundation and preventing erosion) and start construction of the golf course, theater, entertainment area and low-rise housing area, expected to be completed within 12 months.

"Phase 2 will be implemented in mid-2026, focusing on road construction and technical items," said Ms. Ly.
