Vinh Long accelerates implementation of sustainable development goals

With the goal of operating the local government apparatus after the merger smoothly, stably, effectively and comprehensively completing the socio-economic targets in 2025, Vinh Long has implemented many synchronous, flexible and drastic solutions. Thanks to that, the socio-economic situation continues to achieve many positive results; it is estimated that the whole year will complete and exceed 18/24 main targets.

Thanks to that, the socio-economic situation continues to achieve many positive results; it is estimated that the whole year will complete and exceed 18/24 main targets.

Completed and exceeded 18/24 socio-economic targets

At the third session of the 10th Provincial People's Council (term 2021 - 2026), Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee - Dang Van Chinh said that in 2025, the province achieved many important and comprehensive results in the fields of socio-economics, national defense and security.

Economic growth is estimated to have reached the set target with even development in all three areas: agriculture remained stable, industry recovered positively, trade - services - tourism grew quite well. Trade promotion activities, connecting supply and demand, stimulating consumption were organized effectively, contributing to promoting domestic production and consumption. Budget revenue exceeded estimates; revenue management, anti-loss, tax debt collection, and control of new revenue sources from e-commerce were strengthened. Budget expenditures were managed in accordance with regulations, serving well the tasks of socio-economic development, national defense and security.

Many targets were achieved and exceeded: GRDP increased by 5.84%; GRDP per capita reached 82.25 million VND, up 12.89% compared to 2024; total social investment capital reached 70,928.3 billion VND, up 17.2%; total import-export turnover reached 5,660 million USD, up 17.35%.

The whole province has 98/105 communes meeting new rural standards; the rate of trained workers is 74.21%; the rate of poor households has decreased by 0.5%. The rate of rural and urban population using clean, hygienic water is 99.5%. The forest coverage rate is 2.3%.

The tourism sector recorded many positive signals: the total number of visitors is estimated at more than 9.3 million (up 13.4%); international visitors are more than 1.2 million (up 71.6%); total revenue is 7,963.2 billion VND, up 17.64%. Localities focus on investing in tourism infrastructure, renovating relics, developing typical products, and applying digital technology in promotion.

The fields of social security, health, and education have been well implemented. The rate of population participating in health insurance reached 95.5%. The Gratitude Fund mobilized more than 12,967 billion VND. The program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses in the 2024 - 2025 period has supported 14,738 houses, with a total cost of more than 894 billion VND. The disbursement of the national target program for ethnic minority areas is estimated to reach 100% of the plan. The province's Innovation Index (PII) in 2025 ranked 17th in the country and 3rd in the Mekong Delta.

In addition to the achieved results, the province still faces many difficulties: slow transformation of the agricultural economic structure, small-scale production; import and export are affected by global economic and political fluctuations; public investment progress is still slow; climate change, natural disasters, and landslides affect production and life.

Resolutely implementing tasks in 2026

The Provincial People's Committee identified 7 groups of key tasks and solutions for 2026. Some important targets include: GRDP growth reaching 10%; the proportion of digital economy reaching about 8.05%; the poverty rate decreasing by 0.07%; total social investment capital reaching 79,000 billion VND.

Key solutions include: synchronously implementing macroeconomic policies, ensuring major balance of the economy; promoting growth of sectors; synchronously developing culture and society; improving people's quality of life; strengthening resource management, environmental protection, and natural disaster prevention; promoting administrative reform; preventing and combating corruption and negativity; strengthening national defense and security; expanding foreign relations and international integration.

At the meeting, Provincial Party Secretary - Tran Van Lau emphasized that 2026 is the year to resolutely implement breakthrough solutions, deploy the Resolution of the 1st Provincial Party Congress, term 2025 - 2030, towards the goal of building Vinh Long to develop rapidly and sustainably; become a center of marine economy, a center of renewable energy production; have a synchronous, modern infrastructure system, and seamless connection in the Mekong Delta region. The new period sets out 31 specific targets, 6 key tasks, 3 strategic breakthroughs and 4 development pillars including: marine economy and renewable energy; ecological agriculture, high technology; connecting infrastructure and logistics; cultural heritage and human resources.

The Provincial Party Secretary requested the Provincial People's Council to clarify the orientations for socio-economic development, national defense and security; resolve pressing issues; create consensus; and be determined to successfully implement the goals and resolutions. At the same time, discuss and give opinions on draft resolutions and solutions to effectively implement 29 socio-economic, security and national defense targets in 2026.
