VNDirect was attacked by cyberattack, State Securities Commission issued urgent warning

Late on the night of March 25, the State Securities Commission issued an urgent warning about the security of online securities trading systems after VNDirect was attacked by international hackers and had to temporarily suspend operations.

In response to the incident in the market where a securities company's information technology system was attacked, leading to the temporary suspension of the company's securities trading system, the State Securities Commission issued a document warning about the security of the online securities trading system.

The document was released late at night on March 25.

The State Securities Commission requires securities companies to immediately implement measures to ensure the safe, stable and smooth operation of the stock market.

The document signed by the Director of the Information Technology Department (State Securities Commission) Doan Thanh Tung, under the order of the Chairman of the State Securities Commission, said that recently, there was a case in the market where a securities company was attacked on its information technology system, leading to the company's securities trading system temporarily ceasing operations.

In order to ensure the safe, stable and smooth operation of the stock market, the State Securities Commission requires the company to ensure that the information technology system and backup database operate safely and continuously according to the provisions of Clause 10, Article 89 of the 2019 Securities Law.

In addition, proactively review and immediately check security plans for the company's information technology system, especially the securities trading system and systems connected to the internet to promptly fix security vulnerabilities (if any).

Conduct checks on online transaction processes; risk control processes; system and data backup processes; IT system operation management processes; develop response measures and overcome potential security risks.

“In case the company detects signs of security insecurity, it must be proactive and focus resources to handle and remedy the situation; promptly report to the State Securities Commission; stock exchanges, Vietnam Securities Depository and Clearing Corporation (for member securities companies) and competent authorities for coordination and direction,” the dispatch stated.

The State Securities Commission also requested the company to seriously and promptly implement and report the results of the review, inspection, and remedial plan (if any) to the State Securities Commission and relevant units before April 1.

Previously, on March 25, VNDirect sent a written report on the online trading system incident to the State Securities Commission.

The incident occurred at 10:00 on March 24 at DC Fornix Duy Tan. The system was attacked by an international hacker organization. The virtual infrastructure of the system was attacked, causing the entire company's trading platform to be temporarily inaccessible.

The company confirmed that this incident disrupted trading activities but did not affect the asset status of customers' securities accounts.

According to VNDirect, the impact on the market, customers, trading systems and other related systems. Customers cannot log in to make online transactions. However, the company confirmed that no damage has occurred.

To fix the problem, on the morning of March 25, VNDirect coordinated with partners FPT and Viettel to handle, fix, and ensure the safety of all customer information and assets.

Previously, on March 25, the Hanoi Stock Exchange (HNX) and Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange (HOSE) also temporarily disconnected VNDirect's transactions with HOSE from March 25 until the company completely resolved the problem./.
