Accordingly, 3 children of fishermen with extremely difficult family circumstances in Ca Mau province (2 children in Tran Van Thoi district and 1 child in Nam Can district) were sponsored by Brigade 175, Regiment 551 (Region 5) and Factory X55, Naval Technical Department. They were supported with regular expenses of 500,000 VND/person/month along with books, school supplies, necessities and medical care until they are 18 years old.
Colonel Nguyen Huu Thoan, Deputy Political Commissar of Naval Region 5, said this is a meaningful activity, contributing to sharing difficulties with especially disadvantaged fishermen's families.
In recent years, implementing the program "Vietnam Navy as a fulcrum for fishermen to go offshore and stick to the sea" of the Navy, the Command of Naval Region 5 has proactively coordinated closely with the two provinces of Ca Mau and Kien Giang to do a good job of propaganda for cadres, party members, fishing boat owners, and fishermen to raise awareness and responsibility in protecting the sovereignty of the sea and islands and strictly comply with the provisions of the law in exploiting aquatic and marine products; participating in search and rescue, helping fishermen in natural disasters, storms, etc.
Along with that, the ships of Naval Region 5 stand guard day and night, stay at the forefront of the wind and waves, patrol, patrol, and reconnaissance in assigned sea areas and islands, always ready to fight; resolutely and persistently fight against foreign encroachments; firmly manage and protect the sovereignty of the Southwestern sea and islands of the Fatherland; support and protect our marine economic activities; maintain a peaceful and stable environment in the sea and islands; contribute to building an increasingly solid national defense posture, associated with the increasingly solid people's security posture in the Southwestern sea and islands.
Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Van Su hopes that the program will be successfully implemented and expanded in the coming time.
At the ceremony, Colonel Nguyen Huu Thoan, Deputy Political Commissar of Naval Region 5, said that the activity "Navy sponsors fishermen's children" is a policy of the Naval Command, aiming to continue expanding and improving the effectiveness of the program "Vietnam Navy as a fulcrum for fishermen to go offshore and stick to the sea", in line with reality and meeting the requirements and tasks in the new situation.
“This is a specific work with profound political and social significance, contributing to sharing difficulties with the families of fishermen in particularly difficult circumstances; enhancing the effectiveness of mass mobilization work, military-civilian solidarity, helping fishermen feel secure in going offshore, sticking to the sea to exploit aquatic and seafood products, and firmly protecting the sovereignty of the sea and islands of the Fatherland,” said Colonel Nguyen Huu Thoan.
Comrades in the Naval Region 5 Command presented decisions and 3 gifts (each gift worth 3 million VND) to fishing families whose children were sponsored.
According to the Deputy Political Commissar of Naval Region 5, this is a policy of long-term significance and there are still many difficulties in organizing and implementing it, so it requires a very high consensus, synchronous, smooth and effective coordination of all levels, sectors, localities and units.
With the tradition of close ties between the Navy and fishermen; the attention of the leaders of Ca Mau province and compatriots and comrades nationwide, the Deputy Political Commissar of Naval Region 5 hopes that the activity "Navy adopts fishermen's children" will be successful as expected, contributing to the successful implementation of the Resolution of the 8th Central Committee (Term XII) on "Strategy for sustainable development of Vietnam's marine economy to 2030, vision to 2045".
