Chieng Cong commune proactively prevents cold for livestock

Việt NamViệt Nam27/01/2025

These days, the weather in the North has been experiencing many cold spells, with temperatures dropping at night and in the morning, sometimes from 3-5ºC. To avoid damage caused by the cold, farmers in Chieng Cong commune have taken many measures to protect their livestock from the cold.

Mr. Sung A Chu's family in Lin Lanh village, Chieng Cong commune has 3 buffaloes, 2 cows and over 30 poultry of all kinds, mainly grazing naturally. In the past few days, the weather has been very cold and there has been frost, so he keeps the buffaloes and cows in the barn, covers them with tarpaulin and adds straw and corn cobs to help the animals increase their resistance to the cold.

Mr. Sung A Chu - Lin Lanh village , Chieng Cong commune, Muong La, Son La : Due to the severe cold weather, my family has followed the instructions of the People's Committee of the commune and our village to bring the buffaloes and cows back to the barn and prepare grass and straw for feeding. Up to now, my family has not let the livestock and poultry roam freely, has locked up the buffaloes and brought them back safely, and currently my family has no cows that have died from the severe cold.

Currently, Chieng Cong commune has more than 2,600 buffaloes and cows and over 1,700 poultry?, of which small-scale farming accounts for a high proportion. After harvesting the crop, the farming households have prepared food reserves, planted and cared for elephant grass; and covered the barns to protect livestock from the cold. From the end of September to the beginning of October, after harvesting the crop, people in the villages actively collected straw, prepared elephant grass, and took corn stalks to make reserve food for buffaloes and cows. In particular, people proactively brought buffaloes and cows to raise in airtight barns, cleaned the barns regularly, and did not let buffaloes and cows work or graze outdoors when the temperature was below 10 degrees Celsius. Identifying livestock farming as one of the directions for sustainable economic development, farmers' awareness of protecting, preventing and combating the cold for their livestock has been raised in recent times. In addition to the people's initiative, the commune government also increased propaganda and guided people to implement measures to prevent and protect livestock from cold.

With synchronous measures and active participation of local authorities and proactiveness of the people, we believe that this winter in Chieng Cong commune will minimize losses in livestock farming, ensure sustainable development of livestock in the area and bring high economic efficiency to farmers./.
