Sa Tran drainage culvert has 5 flood drainage gates, combined with a 12m long main traffic route, playing an important role in draining water from the Vu Giang River, protecting more than 10,000 households and thousands of hectares of rice, while also maintaining domestic water for neighboring communes.

However, all 5 sluice gates are currently punctured, the sluice gates are broken, and many landslides have caused strong water leakage. The system is mainly operated manually, increasing the risk of unsafety during the rainy season. In addition, the Vu Giang system below the sluice gate is being dredged for over 1 km to promptly drain water during the rainy season.

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Thuan - Chairman of Van Tu Commune People's Committee, on the night of July 20, the commune mobilized forces to tie the bridge railing with ropes, weld holes in the sluice gates and maintain electrical equipment to promptly respond before the storm hits. "In the long term, Sa Tran drainage culvert needs to be upgraded by the State to ensure safety and serve stable production for the people," Mr. Thuan emphasized.
