TPO - The leader of Vietnam Electricity Group said that after the EPC contract is signed, the project to supply electricity from the national grid to Con Dao district will be implemented in December. It is expected that in the fourth quarter of 2025, electricity will reach Con Dao.

The contract for the design, equipment supply and construction package (EPC) of the project to supply electricity from the national grid to Con Dao district ( Ba Ria - Vung Tau province) was signed on December 12.

Mr. Nguyen Tai Anh - Deputy General Director of Vietnam Electricity Group ( EVN) - said that the project to supply electricity from the national grid to Con Dao district has a total investment of 4,920 billion VND, with EVN as the investor; Power Project Management Board 3 is assigned as the investor's representative. The capital for the project is arranged from the central budget of about 2,520 billion VND and EVN's counterpart capital of about 2,400 billion VND.

This is one of EVN's key projects to be implemented in 2025, with many important meanings, not only serving the socio-economic development of Con Dao district but also contributing to ensuring national security and defense in this area.

According to Mr. Tai Anh, the EPC package is the main package of the project with the scope of work including design, equipment supply and construction of a 110 kV submarine cable line with a length of about 77.7 km from the sea transition point in Vinh Chau town ( Soc Trang ) to the landing point in Con Dao district.

This is a difficult package as it must be implemented entirely at sea with an average depth of 15-30 m, with the deepest point reaching 50 m, so construction depends heavily on favorable weather conditions from March to August.

After signing the EPC contract, construction will begin in December. It is expected that in the fourth quarter of 2025, electricity will be supplied to Con Dao district from the national grid and the entire project is expected to be completed in 2026.

Previously, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha signed a decision on the investment policy for the project to supply grid electricity to Con Dao. Currently, the electricity source in Con Dao is powered by diesel generators, only meeting the electricity demand for daily life and part of the electricity demand for services and tourism.

The forecasted electricity demand for the island district by 2025 is about 28.7 MW, increasing more than 3 times, to 87.6 MW by 2030 and reaching 94 MW by 2035. Comparing current power supply options for Con Dao, pulling underground cables to bring electricity from the national grid to the island is the most optimal when it comes to stability and minimizing impacts on the environment and nature of Con Dao.
