Recently, the program Vietnam's Next Top Model (VNTM) 2024 has become the center of public opinion with a series of controversies. The most prominent of which is the host - supermodel Thanh Hang's posing demonstration that did not convince the audience.

Some netizens even think that Thanh Hang's photography and posing skills are somewhat inferior to those of some of the contestants she guides.

In addition, the audience also argued that the host of the show was too harsh with the contestants, while the idea of ​​taking aerial photos in episode 1 was old and outdated, appearing in the show 10 years ago.

Amidst public debate, supermodel Xuan Lan - who played the role of host and "villain" in many seasons of VNTM - revealed for the first time the "hidden corners" behind the scenes of the program.

Talking to Dan Tri reporter, Xuan Lan said she wanted to share frankly so that the public could understand the profession.

"I play the bad guy, swear at people like I sing well"

Xuan Lan admitted: "Usually in a reality TV show, there must be initial attraction from the audience. The more controversial it is, the more attention it gets."

She said that with her "naturally evil face and sour voice", the program director assigned her a special task: in addition to the role of host and judge, she also had to "play the bad guy" and "curse people like she was singing well".

This mission left her with many unforgettable memories. Xuan Lan recounted the moments when she had to scold contestants like Le Thuy or the contestants of the 2012 season for not appreciating the opportunity.

"After I cursed, the contestants' faces turned pale, some even burst into tears because they were so angry. I felt sorry for the contestants but I still had to keep a cold face because the director assigned them that task. If they didn't do it, they would have to pay the contract," she confided.

"Trademark" phrases like: "I have these pictures in my hand... the person I don't call out must immediately return to pack their things and leave the competition...", are also part of the script that the host must perform.

This made Xuan Lan hated by the audience, given nicknames such as "evil", "monster", "witch".

However, Xuan Lan emphasized that that is only what the audience sees on television.

She said the real purpose of VNTM is to train contestants "from naive to supermodels in a few months". The harsh challenges such as taking pictures with pythons, snakes, spiders, swinging on ropes or wading in water... are all in the copyrighted format of the original program.

However, the crew always has to prioritize safety. "If people are suspended high up, someone has to test the safety and camera angle... for difficult challenges, there is always an ambulance and doctor on duty," she revealed.

Besides the "bad guy" images, supermodel Xuan Lan said that she and the other judges are all devoted to their students. Some judges scold contestants a lot but take care of them even more. "Whoever scolds them a lot will go to the finals. That is a trick to deceive people, also known as a reality TV trick," the supermodel revealed.

Finally, Xuan Lan gave heartfelt words to the new season of VNTM crew. She acknowledged the huge investment in production costs "from 14 years ago, to produce 1 episode cost more than 1 billion VND" and gave her advice: "This season is 15 years after the first season..., so the way of educating the generation is also different. Young people are younger, more gentle and have more opportunities than before. Social networks are also much stronger".

Xuan Lan hopes that the Organizing Committee will understand the contestants' psychology, so that after leaving the competition, they will have a broad and open career path.
