Request to remove advertisements on e-commerce platform for 2 health protection foods containing banned substances

NDO - On May 3, the Ministry of Health announced that it had discovered a number of e-commerce trading floors, websites, and social networks that were trading and advertising health protection foods Dang Xuan Phuc Linh Gold and Best Slim Collagen containing the banned substance sibutramine - an active ingredient that has been banned from use in the production and trading of health protection foods.

The Food Safety Department, Ministry of Health, said it has discovered that some e-commerce trading floors, websites, and social networks are selling and advertising two health protection food products, Dang Xuan Phuc Linh Gold and Best Slim Collagen.

Regarding these two products, on April 29, 2025, the Department of Food Safety issued Official Dispatch No. 944/ATTP-PCTTR to 63 provinces/cities nationwide regarding the monitoring and recall of the above two products due to containing the banned substance sibutramine (according to the report on the results of the proactive monitoring of food safety hazards by the National Institute for Food Safety and Hygiene Control).

The Food Safety Department confirmed that, of the above two products, the health protection food product Dang Xuan Phuc Linh Gold has not been announced, the Registration Receipt number of the announcement printed on the packaging is incorrect.

Regarding the health food product Best slim collagen announced by Hoa Anh Dao Medical Equipment Company Limited, it was granted a Certificate of Registration of Announcement 4844/2019/DKSP on May 7, 2019. However, Hoa Anh Dao Medical Equipment Company Limited reported that it did not import the batch of Best slim collagen products (Lot/production should be used before #29L367-01/2027).

To ensure the rights and health of consumers, the Department of Food Safety (Ministry of Health) has sent a document to the Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy ( Ministry of Industry and Trade ), the Department of Domestic Market Management and Development (Ministry of Industry and Trade); the Department of Radio, Television and Electronic Information (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) on coordinating to review and handle health protection foods that are violating the regulations and being traded and advertised on the Internet.

Specifically, the Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy, Ministry of Industry and Trade, removes advertising content of the above products on e-commerce trading floors; e-commerce applications; strengthens management of e-commerce trading floors, does not allow counterfeit products, which have been recalled, to be sold on e-commerce trading floors.

The Department of Radio, Television and Electronic Information, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, removed the advertising content of the above products on websites, and requested Facebook and YouTube to review, remove and close the advertisements of the above violating products.

The Department of Domestic Market Management and Development, Ministry of Industry and Trade, shall strengthen market management; control the circulation of the above-mentioned violating products; promptly handle acts of trading in smuggled goods; production and trade of counterfeit goods, prohibited goods, and goods of unknown origin according to regulations.

The results of the proposed processing will be reported to the Food Safety Department for synthesis.

Previously, on April 29, 2025, the Food Safety Department posted a warning about the discovery of 2 products containing the banned substance sibutramine on the Department's website.

It is known that on e-commerce platforms and social networks, the product Dang Xuan Phuc Linh Gold is introduced as a health food that supports safe weight loss, helps burn excess fat and limits cravings. The selling price ranges from 400,000 VND to 550,000 VND/box of 30 pills.

The product Best slim collagen is also advertised to aid weight loss, priced from 650,000 VND to 850,000 VND/box of 40 pills.

As reported by Nhan Dan Newspaper, sibutramine is an appetite suppressant that is banned for human use because it has many dangerous side effects for people with a history of coronary artery disease, heart attack, arrhythmia, high blood pressure or stroke...

In Vietnam, since 2010, the Drug Administration of Vietnam, Ministry of Health, has directed to stop granting import licenses for sibutramine. In April 2011, this agency suspended nationwide circulation and recalled all drugs containing the active ingredient sibutramine due to undesirable effects. The agency also withdrew the registration numbers of all drugs containing the active ingredient sibutramine.
