10 outstanding trade union events and activities in 2025

The year 2025 will see many major anniversaries and important political events of historical significance for the country. In this context, the Vietnam Trade Union organization will continue to clearly affirm its role, capabilities, and responsibilities through many innovative and creative activities, focusing strongly on the grassroots level and providing practical care for its members and workers.

1. Activities representing, caring for, and protecting the rights and interests of union members and workers have been strengthened.

Over the past year, the work of representing and protecting the rights of union members and workers has continued to be strongly and systematically implemented by all levels of trade unions; proactively contributing to the development of many important policies, laws, and mechanisms at the industry and local levels, ensuring the rights and improving the lives of workers. Dialogue and collective bargaining have been promoted, and legal counseling and support activities have been maintained.

In 2025, resources will be strongly mobilized to comprehensively care for union members and workers. From heartwarming "Tet Reunion - Spring Gratitude to the Party" programs to meaningful "Trade Union Meals," the spirit of solidarity and sharing will spread throughout the country.

Not stopping at immediate solutions, the Trade Union actively participates in policy planning on social housing and workers' housing; accelerates the implementation of trade union institutions with rental housing models, and takes care of the long-term and sustainable welfare of union members and workers.

2. Streamline the organizational structure of the trade union system; participate in building a clean and strong Party.

In 2025, the Vietnam Trade Union will enter a period of strong reform, streamlining its operational model and reducing the number of administrative units; ending the operation of district-level and equivalent trade unions; ending trade union activities in administrative agencies, armed forces, and public service units receiving 100% of salaries from the state budget; and establishing trade unions at the commune, ward, and special zone levels.

To concretize the theme for 2025, trade unions at all levels proactively issued plans and strived to implement them with creative solutions suitable to local realities, increasing membership by more than 622,000 and establishing 2,862 new grassroots trade unions, including many members in the informal sector.

Simultaneously, the Trade Union continued to affirm its responsibility in Party building. The "Party-Workers-Workers-Party Forum," organized for the first time on a large scale at all levels of the trade union, attracted hundreds of thousands of cadres, union members, and workers, contributing over 630,000 opinions to the draft documents of the Party congresses at all levels and the draft documents of the 14th National Party Congress. This demonstrated the intellect and dedication of cadres, union members, and workers in contributing to the development of the country in the new period.

3. Focus on directing the organization of trade union congresses at all levels leading up to the 14th National Congress of the Vietnam Trade Union.

In preparation for the 14th National Congress of the Vietnam Trade Union, the organization of trade union congresses at all levels is being implemented with a decisive and coordinated spirit. The Presidium of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor has issued numerous guiding documents; successfully organized congresses and conferences of grassroots trade unions; is expected to complete provincial and central-level trade union congresses by December 31st; and established subcommittees to implement tasks in preparation for the 14th National Congress of the Vietnam Trade Union.

The congresses and conferences of grassroots trade unions, commune and ward trade unions, special zone trade unions, and provincial and central-level trade union congresses were held solemnly and seriously in accordance with the regulations of the Vietnam Trade Union Charter, truly becoming a festival for union members and workers, creating momentum for the preparations for the 14th Vietnam Trade Union Congress, which are being carried out urgently and actively.

4. Patriotic emulation movements continue to spread strongly and deeply permeate the lives of union members and workers nationwide.

The 11th National Emulation Congress for Workers, Public Employees, and Laborers was solemnly held, honoring 20 outstanding collectives and 80 outstanding individuals, thereby affirming the pioneering and creative role of the working class in the new era of development.

Responding to the Prime Minister's call for emulation in developing a synchronous and modern infrastructure, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, in coordination with the Vietnam Electricity Group, launched the "Emulation Movement to Accelerate the Progress of Key Projects in 2025". Many key projects such as the 500kV Lao Cai - Vinh Yen transmission line, the Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant expansion, the Quang Trach 1 Thermal Power Plant, and the national grid power supply to Con Dao district were implemented rapidly and completed on schedule.

Through widespread emulation movements, more than 186,000 initiatives have been proposed and applied in practice, generating benefits exceeding 17.5 trillion VND, demonstrating the intelligence and continuous innovative spirit of union members and workers.

5. Organize many practical and meaningful activities to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day on September 2nd.

Trade unions at all levels organized many vibrant and practical activities that were meaningful, blending with the heroic and radiant spirit of celebrating the country's 80th anniversary. At the level of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, a scientific seminar was held on "Trade unions and their role in participating in state management and building a socialist rule of law state"; the "National Creative Labor Day" was organized; an exhibition space on "creative development" was held to showcase the country's achievements; a parade of Vietnamese workers was organized at the commemoration ceremony; and the 3rd Vietnam Workers and Public Employees Football Tournament in 2025 attracted a large number of union members and workers, receiving significant attention and high praise from the public.

These activities not only strengthen the faith, pride, and love for the country among union members and workers, but also affirm the role and position of the working class and the Trade Union organization in the cause of national construction and development.

6. Proposal to increase the regional minimum wage by 7.25% and policies to support those affected by organizational restructuring.

Trade unions proactively and responsibly participated in the National Wage Council, proposing that the Government increase the regional minimum wage from January 1, 2026, with an average increase of 7.25%, contributing to narrowing the gap between the minimum wage and the living standards of workers.

In addition, the Trade Union actively researches and coordinates the issuance of policies to support those affected by the reorganization of the organizational structure and administrative units at all levels, including trade union officials in general and trade union officials working under contract, ensuring their rights and stable livelihoods.

7. The Creative Labor Day affirms the pioneering role of innovation and creativity of the working class in the new era.

For the first time, the Creative Labor Festival will be held simultaneously nationwide, becoming a special highlight of the 2025 Workers' Month with the theme:
"Vietnamese workers are at the forefront of entering a new era."

Hundreds of Creative Labor Days have been organized nationwide, strongly spreading the spirit of innovation and the aspiration for advancement among workers. At the level of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, the event was organized with a series of vibrant and meaningful activities: the exhibition "Creative Journey - Aspiration for Advancement," the forum "Promoting the Creative Potential of Workers," and the awarding of the "Outstanding Enterprise for Workers" award.

More than just a space to celebrate intellect and the aspiration to contribute, the Creative Labor Day has strongly inspired the spirit of daring to think, daring to act, and daring to innovate among Vietnamese workers – the pioneering force for innovation, rapid and sustainable development of the country in the new era.

8. The trade union promptly cared for and supported union members and workers affected by storms and floods.

Following appeals from trade unions at all levels, hundreds of billions of dong and tons of essential supplies have been sent directly to flood-stricken areas by trade union officials, members, and workers nationwide, and also through the Vietnam Fatherland Front.

The Vietnam General Confederation of Labor established eight working groups led by its Standing Committee members to visit, encourage, and provide 13 billion VND in support to union members and workers in 14 provinces and cities affected by the disaster. This has given them strength to overcome difficulties, stabilize their lives, and continue working and producing.

9. For the first time, a national conference was held to commend outstanding workers and laborers who are Party members and to present the "Dynamic, Responsible, and Creative Female Trade Union Member" award.

The year 2025 marks the first time that the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor has organized two activities, creating an important highlight in the work of commending and honoring union members and workers.

The national conference honoring outstanding workers and laborers who are Party members, themed "Shining Examples of Pioneering Workers," recognized 95 outstanding workers and laborers who are Party members, leading the way in labor and production, and contributing to the building of grassroots Party organizations.

The "Dynamic, Responsible, and Creative Female Trade Union Member" award was presented for the first time to 10 outstanding female union members nationwide; in addition, 20 collectives and 60 outstanding individuals in the "Excellent in National Work, Competent in Household Work" movement for the period 2020-2025 were also commended, creating a strong impact in promoting gender equality and inspiring female union members and workers in the new era.

10. Numerous important foreign affairs activities have been implemented, affirming the position and prestige of the Vietnam Trade Union on the international stage.

In 2025, the foreign relations activities of the Vietnam Trade Union will leave a strong mark on the international stage. Vietnam has the honor of hosting the Conference of the Council of Presidents of the World Federation of Trade Unions, with the participation of nearly 64 delegates from 38 trade union organizations in 34 countries and territories.

In addition, trade union organizations at all levels have implemented many activities to consolidate, maintain, and deepen traditional cooperative and friendly relations with trade unions in other countries, while expanding cooperative relations with new partners; actively participating in and promoting the role of the Vietnam Trade Union in international trade union organizations and multilateral mechanisms of which the Vietnam Trade Union is a member.
