On the morning of December 12th, traffic police from various units and localities simultaneously launched a high-intensity campaign. The campaign will last for three months, from December 15th, 2025 to March 16th, 2026 (corresponding to October 26th, 2025 to January 28th, 2026 according to the lunar calendar).
According to the Traffic Police Department, the nationwide crackdown requires proactive monitoring of the situation from early on and from afar, accurate forecasting, and timely handling of all risks to traffic safety, congestion, particularly serious accidents, and public disorder. The goal is to prevent hotspots and ensure absolute safety for important political , economic, and cultural events taking place in 2026. Traffic police forces will implement a comprehensive set of operational measures to curb traffic accidents and reduce congestion in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and other key areas; and strictly handle violations such as illegal gatherings, racing, reckless driving, and resisting law enforcement officers.
The Traffic Police Department requires all personnel to strictly adhere to work procedures and the regulations of the People's Police, behave appropriately, and prevent minor conflicts from escalating into complications that could affect the security and safety of events.
Traffic police forces will intensify patrols, inspections, and strictly handle violations of traffic order and safety nationwide. Specifically, on all road routes (expressways, national highways, provincial roads, urban roads, mountainous roads, and rural roads), task forces will focus on inspecting and handling violations that directly cause accidents, such as driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, speeding, driving in the wrong lane, changing direction without signaling, and operating overloaded or oversized vehicles, or vehicles with illegally modified cargo compartments.
Authorities are intensifying controls on commercial transport vehicles, focusing on illegal passenger pick-up and drop-off, driving against traffic or reversing on highways, and entrusting vehicles to unqualified drivers. The Director of the Traffic Police Department has instructed units and localities to launch campaigns to inspect and handle violations related to alcohol levels starting at 10:00 AM on the first day of the Lunar New Year (Year of the Horse).
On waterways, the Traffic Police Department is directing a tightening of management over vessels, crew members, safety conditions at ports and wharves, and cargo and passenger transport activities. Inspections will focus on violations such as exceeding the waterline, transporting hazardous materials, and using unsafe modified vessels. Routes with mining activities, tourism , festivals, hydroelectric and irrigation reservoirs are identified as key areas during this peak period.
On the railway line, traffic police, in coordination with the railway industry and local authorities, inspect compliance with train operation procedures, handle violations of safety corridors, and promptly address unauthorized crossings, ensuring uninterrupted transportation operations.
A notable aspect of this peak period is the traffic police's coordinated patrols and controls along the entire length of National Highway 1A from Lang Son to Ca Mau. The traffic police are implementing a combined model of undercover and overt operations, mobile patrols and fixed controls, with forces deployed 24/7 in four shifts per day. Each task force consists of 3-5 officers, led by an experienced commander. Local authorities are deploying forces in a staggered manner to ensure effective control and avoid overlapping or leaving areas unattended.
Along with patrol activities, the Traffic Police Department requires 100% of task forces to use professional technical equipment, including handheld cameras and mini cameras worn on the body, to record the entire inspection and handling process at checkpoints or traffic police stations. This measure aims to facilitate the handling of violations, the resolution of complaints and denunciations, and the clarification of acts of resistance against law enforcement officers, while also enhancing transparency in the performance of duties.
To ensure smooth traffic flow for the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam and activities during the Lunar New Year, traffic police forces in localities are required to proactively gather information on the travel schedules of delegations and Party and State leaders; thoroughly survey key intersections, festival areas, tourist destinations, mountain passes, and locations with a high risk of landslides. In case of traffic congestion, the forces must deploy traffic diversion from a distance, coordinate night-time duty at dangerous points, and be ready to mobilize additional forces when needed to escort delegations or handle unexpected situations.
