From yesterday's hardships to today's sweet fruits

In August 1985, in the early days when the country was still struggling to overcome post-war difficulties, an important decision by the People's Committee of Nghe Tinh province laid the foundation for the establishment of Hong Linh High School.

From the knee-high grass land in Hong Linh town (now Bac Hong ward, Ha Tinh ), a school was formed with a great aspiration: to bring knowledge to the young generation, making the dreams of many families here come true.

In the early days of its establishment, the physical conditions were almost zero: no playground, no library, no laboratory, not even a fence. At that time, the school had only 7 classrooms with 29 staff, teachers and employees. Amidst the difficulties, the first lectures of Mr. Vo Tri Trien - Principal and Mr. Phan Cong Tieu - Vice Principal, resounded, starting the journey of sowing seeds of knowledge of the school at the foot of Hong Linh mountain.

In such conditions, the most valuable thing was not material things, but the spirit of solidarity and determination of the whole community. Teachers not only taught but also directly built classrooms, leveled the land, planted trees, taught and built schools. Parents contributed labor and money, helping the school overcome the most difficult stages. Each lesson and each classroom built at that time was not only a unit of knowledge, but also a living proof of the will, belief and love of education .

Currently, the school's size is increasingly stable with nearly 1,500 students and 115 staff and teachers.

After nearly a decade of operation, in 1993, the school began to enter a period of strong growth with the number of students reaching more than 2,100 students per year. By 1995, the school moved to a new, spacious and well-equipped facility - marking an important turning point in its development journey. The new space not only created favorable conditions for facilities but also served as a stepping stone for a transformation in the quality of teaching and learning.

In particular, after merging with Hong Lam High School in 2020, the school's scale has become increasingly stable with nearly 1,500 students, 115 staff and teachers, including 28 masters. Many teachers are excellent teachers at the provincial level, awarded the title of emulation fighter, and in particular, 3 teachers were honored with the title of Excellent Teacher - a worthy recognition for their tireless dedication.

Tradition and innovation go hand in hand

Not only growing in scale, Hong Linh High School has been affirming its position with increasingly improved educational quality. For many consecutive years, the school has always been in the group of leading schools in Ha Tinh province in terms of high school graduation exam results and university admissions.

Many students of the school achieved a total score of 27 or higher in the university entrance exam, passing the entrance exam to top universities in the country. Notably, from this school, there have been 5 students who are valedictorians of major universities. A typical example is Tran Xuan Bach - valedictorian of Hanoi Medical University in 2015.

13, Dau Thi Thu - valedictorian of the same school in 2011, Nguyen Dinh Thuan - valedictorian of the University of Transport in 2009. Most recently, in 2022, Dang Thi Khanh Linh became the valedictorian of block D nationwide, Tran Tien Manh was in the top 3 candidates with the highest C00 block exam scores nationwide, Nguyen Thuy Duong was the valedictorian of block C00 of Ha Tinh.

The national excellent student movement at Hong Linh High School started in 1999, when Le Quang Toan won the third prize in Biology. Since then, generations of students at the school have continued that tradition. Notable among them are Phan Huy Duc - who won the second prize in Chemistry for two consecutive years, and most recently Phan Sy Danh - who won the third prize in Informatics in 2024.

The school's overall achievements have important contributions from the teaching staff.

These achievements do not come by chance, but are the result of a process of intensive, strategic and systematic training from the board of directors to the professional team. Teachers are assigned to tutor and review in an individualized manner, helping students maximize their individual abilities.

In addition to excellent students, gifted students are also the school's outstanding strengths. They have repeatedly won high prizes in competitions such as Math on handheld calculators, English online, and the Central Highlands Informatics Olympiad. The school's students also actively participate and leave their mark in competitions such as "Road to Olympia", "Future Female Students", "Seven Colors of the Rainbow", and won the "Brand Review Award" - playgrounds that not only require knowledge, but also confidence, creativity and courage.

Extracurricular activities are staged by the school's own students.

In particular, in the trend of global integration, the school always focuses on developing foreign language skills and soft skills for students. As of early 2025, there were 25 students achieving IELTS 7.0 or higher, a remarkable number compared to the local average. This is not only the result of individual student efforts, but also the result of modern educational orientation, integrating the main curriculum and extracurricular activities, English clubs, and debates organized systematically and regularly.

In the field of scientific and technical research, Hong Linh High School students have also left many remarkable marks. In the 2019-2020 school year, a group of students successfully developed attendance management software using facial recognition technology, winning the first prize at the provincial level. Recently, the topic "Anxiety disorder syndrome in high school students in Ha Tinh province, current situation and solutions" by Vo Ngoc Bao Linh won the second prize - showing the acumen and ability to approach social issues from a scientific and deeply humanistic perspective.

Along with improving academic quality, the school always pays special attention to moral education, personality and life skills for students. The tradition of "Teaching well - Learning well" is extended to humanistic values: living kindly, honestly, responsibly and knowing how to share. Every year, the school's students actively participate in volunteer activities, donate blood, and help disadvantaged students inside and outside the school... becoming a sustainable cultural beauty of the school.

Extracurricular activities at the school are vibrant with the development of 8 student clubs: from English, music, modern dance to sports, journalism and painting. This is not only a useful playground but also a space for students to develop personal abilities, discover and nurture their own passions. Each club activity is an opportunity for students to express themselves, learn how to work in groups, practice critical thinking and increase confidence - skills that are essential in the new era.

Students of Hong Linh High School actively participated in the candle lighting activity to show gratitude on War Invalids and Martyrs Day.

All these efforts have contributed to helping the school continuously achieve the title of Excellent Labor Collective, receive many certificates of merit from the Ministry of Education and Training, Ha Tinh Provincial People's Committee, and be recognized as a national standard school in 2012, 2017 and 2024. The Party Committee, Trade Union, and Youth Union of the school always maintain the title of strong and exemplary - a solid political and social foundation for the comprehensive development of the school.

From a small school at the foot of Hong Mountain, after 40 years, Hong Linh High School has become a prestigious educational address, a place to inspire and arouse aspirations for tens of thousands of students on the path to adulthood.
