AI needs photographers to survive

(NADS) - Photographers today have an important role to play in the era of AI technology.

AI depends on real-world photos to thrive.

Dr. Alessandra Sala, Senior Director of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Data Science at Shutterstock, said that: AI applications are creative. For example, image-generating applications must fundamentally rely on real data. For example, photos created by photographers.

“Photographs that capture the essence of truth, goodness, and beauty are the foundation on which AI models learn and evolve,” says Dr. Sala. As such, photographers will continue to play a key role in shaping the future of AI.

"Artificial intelligence will always need new images."

Dr Sala explained that photographers need to “inspire and train” AI creation tools. She added that the technology desperately needs real images to develop, maintain its objectivity and maintain its integrity.

"AI technology has shown excellence in learning from original works and recreating them into new works with its own style, but it still needs guidance and instruction from photographers and users. This helps AI capture important details and complexities of the real world ."

To develop AI tools optimally, new images must be constantly updated, diverse in genres and full of elements of truth, goodness and beauty. Without these elements, works created by AI are at risk of facing problems such as lack of creativity, not bringing any specific practical value... This leads to AI creating works that have no use value.

A report in November said that AI companies are struggling to come up with new and better products, partly due to a lack of data. The main reasons for this lack of data include: AI-generated images cannot be used to retrain AI, image sources for training AI are increasingly difficult to access due to copyright issues, while authors are taking strong measures to fight against AI's unauthorized use of their intellectual property.

Dr Sala said that AI creative tools will continue to need more time and quality content to help them become more aware. This shows that AI tools still need accurate information to update their data and ensure that AI remains relevant and representative of our ever-changing world."
