India offers 78 long-term scholarships to Vietnamese students

The Government of India has just announced the award of 78 long-term scholarships for Vietnamese students and scholars to study at leading Indian higher education institutions in the academic year starting July-August 2025.

India offers 78 long-term scholarships to Vietnamese students and scholars.

The scholarships are offered through the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), under programmes such as: Atal Bihari Vajpayee General Scholarship (GSS), Mekong-Ganga Cooperation (MGC) Scholarship, Dr. S. Radhakrishnan Cultural Exchange Scholarship, and Lata Mangeshkar Dance & Music Scholarship of the Government of India.

Beneficiaries include officials of state agencies, lecturers of educational institutions, Buddhist scholars and students nationwide.

Out of the total 78 scholarships, 38 are for PhD, 24 for Masters and 16 for Bachelors. The successful candidates will study at prestigious universities such as Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee, Delhi University, Nalanda University, Banaras Hindu University, Mumbai University, Savitribai Phule Pune University, Andhra University, Gujarat University, Kerala University, Lucknow University, Dibrugarh University, etc.

The fields of study are diverse, from Information Technology, Computer Science , Business Administration, Commerce, International Relations, Public Policy Management, Water Resources to specialized fields such as Buddhism, Philosophy, Psychology, Archaeology, Ancient Indian History, Performing Arts, Indian Arts and Culture, Pali Language.

The scholarship covers all study expenses such as tuition fees, round-trip airfare, visa, living allowance and facilities at the training facility.

The scholarship program demonstrates the long-term commitment of the Government of India to supporting the development of high-quality human resources for Vietnam, while deepening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries.

It is estimated that there are currently at least 1,000 Vietnamese alumni who received scholarships from the Indian Government and are holding important positions in the state apparatus, businesses, universities, organizations or startups in many localities.

In addition to long-term programs, India also annually grants about 130 short-term training scholarships to Vietnamese citizens through courses under the ITEC program (www.itecgoi.in). More than 5,000 Vietnamese have participated in these training programs over the past decades.
