To meet the needs and wishes of worshiping the relics of Buddha Shakyamuni - the national treasure of India right in Vietnam, the Ministry of Ethnic Minorities and Religions has advised the Government and the Prime Minister of Vietnam to send a letter to the Prime Minister of India, requesting an extension of the display period of Buddha relics in Vietnam from May 22 to June 2, 2025.
The Indian Embassy has just officially announced that the Indian Government has agreed to extend the display of Buddha relics in Vietnam after May 21.
The Indian Embassy has also requested to provide a schedule of the exhibition venues after May 21 so that necessary arrangements can be made such as visa extension for accompanying Indian officials and monks, related ceremonies and security arrangements.
This is the fourth time that the Buddha's relics have been taken outside of India.
In Vietnam, Buddha's relics have been enshrined at four locations for people across the country to freely visit and worship, including: Thanh Tam Pagoda (HCMC), Ba Den Mountain (Tay Ninh), Quan Su Pagoda ( Hanoi ) and Tam Chuc Pagoda (Ha Nam).
According to information from the Organizing Committee, from May 2 to 8, nearly 2 million people visited Buddha's relics at Thanh Tam Pagoda.
From May 13 to the end of the night of May 16, Quan Su Pagoda welcomed more than 5 million Buddhists, locals and tourists to pay homage to the Buddha's relics. Due to the large number of Buddhists and locals paying homage to the Buddha's relics, the Organizing Committee decided to extend the reception hours and maintain 24/7 worship activities at Quan Su Pagoda.
From May 17 to May 20, the relics will be enshrined at Tam Chuc Pagoda, expected to welcome more than 700,000 visitors.
