Abundant space
With two branches of Hau River, Tien River and a dense system of canals and streams, An Giang possesses rich potential for river tourism . Realizing this potential, the tourism industry has proactively created and exploited unique tourism products to serve tourists.
Deputy Director of the Provincial Center for Investment, Trade and Tourism Promotion Le Trung Hieu informed: “In terms of potential, An Giang has a system of canals and ditches interwoven with green fields and fruit-laden orchards; floating markets, poetic river raft villages and friendly, hospitable people.
This is an important factor for the industry to develop suitable tourism products to exploit this resource well. Tourists coming to An Giang can enjoy the beautiful river scenery, explore the traditional fishing activities of the people, enjoy traditional music, diverse cuisine and enjoy the feeling of being close to nature.
In recent times, the Provincial Center for Investment, Trade and Tourism Promotion has actively coordinated with sectors and localities to diversify the province's tourism products. Currently, localities located in the upstream area such as Chau Doc Ward, Chau Phong Commune, Vinh Hau Commune, etc. all have unique products, helping tourists have new experiences when coming to An Giang.
“We have put the Chau Doc River Crossing Colorful Floating Village and the Da Phuoc Cham Village Market (Vinh Hau Commune) into operation in 2024, thereby receiving support from travel agencies and tourists. The products have made a certain impression when launched, helping tourists access a new “piece” on the An Giang tourism map,” said Mr. Le Trung Hieu.
In addition to the above products, the tourism industry has also exploited tours and routes related to the flood season. Places that have been successful with this type of tourism include: Tra Su Melaleuca Forest, An Cu Commune; Tan Trung Lake, Phu Tan Commune; Binh Thien Pond, Nhon Hoi Commune... Visitors to the flood season in An Giang will experience the vast water fields, enjoy the specialties and immerse themselves in the leisurely lifestyle of the Southern land.
The colorful raft village at the Chau Doc river junction has attracted many tourists to experience.
Leverage potential
As a unit that often operates tours and routes serving tourists on the river, Alden Travel Company has brought new experiences to tourists about An Giang land. Director of Alden Travel Company Nguyen Dinh Duoc said that tourists are very impressed with the tours at the colorful floating village at the Chau Doc river junction, Vinh Te canal, Chau Phong Cham village, Chau Phong commune, Da Phuoc Cham village... The company also combines community tourism activities, eco-tourism, cultural tourism with unique local values into the same tour so that tourists can have more diverse experiences.
Mr. Nguyen Dinh Duoc added that if in the past tourists only visited the raft village, fed the fish and then moved elsewhere, now they can also enjoy specialties, cultural and artistic performances in the airy, cool and peaceful space of the Chau Doc river junction.
At the same time, it is also proposed that there should be more convenient wharfs for picking up and dropping off guests. For households doing tourism, it is necessary to diversify the experiences for tourists, improve service skills to increase the professionalism of the local tourism industry.
Not only the localities adjacent to the Chau Doc River junction, the communes and wards where the flood season occurs every year are also gradually shaping tourism products associated with this unique natural phenomenon. In Nui Cam commune, the Commune Farmers' Association is mobilizing and supporting farmers to implement a livelihood model during the flood season.
Currently, the locality has established a professional association for fish farming in the flood season with 20 members, on an area of over 52 hectares. Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Nui Cam Commune, Ly Thanh Tung, informed that after successfully piloting the model, the commune's farmers' association will mobilize farmers to expand the farming area, as well as support with breeds and farming tools. In the future, if conditions permit, the model will be linked to agricultural tourism activities, aiming to serve the needs of sightseeing and tourism.
“We will research and develop some more tourism products associated with the colorful floating village of Chau Doc river junction and the surrounding area. In particular, we will also re-develop tours associated with Long Xuyen floating market, My Hoa Hung commune so as not to “forget” this area. Along with that, we will also coordinate with other industries and travel companies to build new products associated with An Giang rivers to increase the experience for tourists in the coming time,” Mr. Le Trung Hieu emphasized.
