"Vietnamese home-cooked meals are the best in the world "

Mr. Charles Bonneau (French, living in Da Nang) shared a video of a family meal that went viral on social media. In the video, he and many people gathered around a Vietnamese family meal with many dishes displayed on a familiar mat in the middle of the house.

Not used to sitting cross-legged like Vietnamese people, Charles was "favored" by the homeowner to sit on a low plastic chair.

The plastic chair detail has caused a stir among netizens. Many people wondered why “the Westerner was allowed to sit on the chair”, and the explanation was that Westerners often find it difficult to sit cross-legged or squat for long periods of time.

The Atlantic magazine quoted American expert Bryan Ausinheiler as saying that Western children are born with the ability to squat, but gradually lose this ability as they grow older due to their body structure. Tall people with long legs will have more difficulty sitting in the traditional Asian style.

What makes netizens even more excited is Charles' integration when he can skillfully use chopsticks and chat comfortably with his family. In the comment section, when asked where he is from, he humorously replied: "I am a Vietnamese with a beard." He also boasted that he has practiced a lot so he can now use chopsticks skillfully.

For Charles, what makes Vietnamese home-cooked meals “the best in the world” is not only the taste of the food, but also the scene of the whole family gathering around the dinner table.

In many rural areas of Vietnam, the habit of eating rice on mats has been passed down through many generations. Without fancy tables and chairs, people sit in a circle, eating and chatting together. This simplicity has become a "specialty" that is hard to find in any high-class restaurant.

From Charles's story, many Vietnamese people also have the opportunity to look back at their familiar lifestyle - something so simple that it is sometimes forgotten, but it moves international friends.

Under the clip, many viewers left sympathetic comments: "In many families, people often wait for everyone to come home before serving dinner. The atmosphere is extremely warm", or "It's true that only at home meals can we feel such a sense of togetherness".

Westerners are welcomed like family.

Not only is he passionate about home-cooked meals, Charles Bonneau has also shared many times that the three things he loves most about Vietnam are food, people and beautiful scenery.

“Vietnamese food is so delicious, I could eat Quang noodles and banh mi every day,” Charles said. For him, it is not only the taste but also the way Vietnamese people treat each other with hospitality and sincerity that makes him admire. “People are very friendly, when someone needs help, there is always someone ready to support,” he said.

The French man was also particularly impressed with Vietnam’s nature and landscape. He said that in Ninh Binh, the picturesque landscape of mountains and rivers gives a “very chill” feeling of relaxation. Meanwhile, Da Nang - where he lives - is modern, clean, has a dynamic lifestyle and owns a beach that he praised as “super beautiful”.

According to the share, Charles has lived and worked in Vietnam for more than 1 year. On his personal page, he often shares moments of enjoying cuisine and practicing speaking Vietnamese every day with the hope of soon "being ordained as a Vietnamese son-in-law".

This French man often expresses his deep affection for the S-shaped country. On the occasion of National Day, September 2, Charles posted a video in which he said in a broken voice: “What moves me is not only the glorious history but also the hearts of the people.

Although the past still bears the marks of hardship, they still keep in their hearts kindness for their family and open their arms to friends far away.

Also in the video, Charles recounted his life experiences in Dai Loc (Quang Nam), where he was warmly welcomed by the people as if he were returning family. “They gave me love, meals, smiles and everything I needed, without ever asking for anything in return.

That is the true beauty of Vietnam, a land that has suffered a lot, but has chosen love to heal. Vietnam has taught me that strength does not lie in toughness but in a kind heart. I will always carry that love with me on every step of my life,” he emotionally shared.
