Looking back at the province's socio -economic picture over the past 9 months, despite facing many difficulties, the agricultural sector still achieved positive growth. The agriculture, forestry and fishery sector continued to record many positive results, making an important contribution to Dong Thap's economic growth.
PROMOTING RURAL ECONOMY
Agricultural production is one of the strengths of Dong Thap province after the merger, with key industries such as: rice, fruits, tra fish, ornamental flowers... In the first months of the year, localities in the province have focused on developing agricultural production, contributing to promoting the rural economy. Depending on conditions and advantages, each locality takes advantage of and exploits different strengths.

Dong Thap focuses on expanding high-quality rice acreage and reducing emissions. |
For example, after the merger, the economic development strength of An Thanh Thuy commune is cultivation and livestock, so the locality calculates economic development based on this advantage. In the commune, there are 3 types of crops that bring high economic efficiency: coconut, grapefruit and dragon fruit. Along with cultivation, livestock in the commune also develops strongly, especially the chicken flock with a scale of more than 2.5 million birds.
In the first months of the year, Dong Thap has implemented drastically, with the highest political determination, to complete the economic growth target of 8% or more in 2025. At the same time, the province also reorganized administrative units and officially operated the 2-level local government model in a streamlined, effective and efficient direction. In the context of having to simultaneously carry out those two major tasks, the province's socio-economic situation remains stable and achieves many positive results. According to the announcement of the General Statistics Office, the gross domestic product (GRDP) of the province in the first 9 months of 2025 is estimated to increase by 6.98% over the same period. This is a very encouraging result, demonstrating the resilience and persistent recovery of the provincial economy in the context of having to focus on major reforms of the apparatus. All economic sectors contributed positively to the overall growth. |
According to Chairman of the People's Committee of An Thanh Thuy Commune Cao Tan Hieu, in the first months of the year, the production situation and prices of key agricultural products of the locality remained stable. In recent months, the prices of livestock products such as chicken meat and eggs have been quite high.
“In the last months of the year, the locality will maintain and promote the development of its key products. To contribute to economic growth, the locality will focus on repopulating chicken flocks to serve the year-end market, as well as fruits for the Tet season. The commune will focus on building links in production and livestock breeding to create stable output for key products,” said Mr. Cao Tan Hieu.
For Tan Phu Dong commune, Dong Thap province, agriculture is the local strength; in which, the main products are lemongrass and shrimp. According to Party Secretary, Chairman of Tan Phu Dong Commune People's Council Bui Thai Son, in the first 9 months of the year, the leadership and direction of production were deployed and implemented synchronously and closely in accordance with the production conditions of each region.

The province's agricultural sector has achieved many positive results in the past 9 months. |
Up to now, the lemongrass planting area is 4,100 hectares, reaching 102% of the plan, the harvested output is 65,000 tons, reaching nearly 90% of the plan; the aquaculture farming area is 6,075 hectares, reaching more than 96%; the harvested output from aquaculture and fishing is 1,790 tons, reaching more than 94%.
In the last months of the year, the locality will regularly monitor and lead the development of agricultural production in the direction of applying high technology, organic, and adapting to climate change. At the same time, focus on building links along the value chain associated with the consumption market of the locality's main agricultural products such as lemongrass and shrimp...
Overall, the province’s agricultural sector has maintained its growth momentum over the past time. According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment (DARD), in the first 9 months of the year, agricultural production in the province continued to develop stably.
The production structure has shifted towards large-scale, concentrated commodity production, associated with high-tech applications, improving product quality and value. Key industries such as rice, fruit trees, vegetables, livestock and aquaculture have maintained stable growth.
According to Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment Le Chi Thien, in the third quarter of 2025, the growth rate of the agriculture, forestry and fishery sector reached 4.57%, much higher than the second quarter. In the first 9 months of the year, the whole sector grew by 4.19%, exceeding the plan compared to the scenario the province developed at the beginning of the year. This will create a foundation for the province to reach the finish line according to the plan for 2025.
TOWARDS GREEN GROWTH
In reality, although the agricultural sector has achieved positive results in the first months of the year, the tasks in the last months of the year are still very large to complete the set goals with the whole province.
Therefore, the agricultural sector and localities are focusing on many solutions to promote production. After the merger, the greatest strength of Long Tien commune is agricultural production; in which, the main force is fruit tree production, with over 3,000 hectares.

The province's agricultural sector has achieved many positive results in the past 9 months. |
According to Chairman of Long Tien Commune People's Committee Do Quoc Khanh, durian is currently the main crop of the commune. To contribute to the province's economic growth target of 8% or more, in the coming time, the commune will focus on mobilizing people to handle off-season durian and spread out the crop to help increase the selling price.
The locality also reviews and creates conditions for units, organizations, individuals, and enterprises to develop production, business, trade and services to attract labor and social investment. In particular, it creates favorable conditions for fruit trading establishments and enterprises in the area to develop, contributing to the consumption of agricultural products and contributing to the socio-economic development of the locality.
According to the Provincial People's Committee, to promote growth in the agricultural sector, the province continues to build an ecological, modern, and civilized agriculture; changing from production thinking to agricultural economic thinking. At the same time, develop circular, low-emission, environmentally friendly agriculture; replicate effective models such as the 1 million hectare high-quality rice project in the Mekong Delta and smart agriculture. The province will proactively monitor weather developments, production situations, and diseases on crops, livestock, and aquatic products; provide guidance on appropriate crop seasons and breed structures; and at the same time, effectively implement work to prevent and combat IUU fishing... |
From the perspective of the agricultural sector, comrade Le Chi Thien said that in the fourth quarter of 2025, the Department of Agriculture and Environment will focus on directing the successful implementation of the 2025-2026 winter-spring rice crop, ensuring the correct crop schedule for each region and proactively providing water resources to prevent and combat drought and salinity; promoting localities to replicate high-quality rice production models and reduce emissions.
The Department of Agriculture and Environment continues to strengthen and improve the quality of cooperatives and OCOP products. The sector has advised the Provincial People's Committee on a plan to re-select OCOP products with the goal of selecting about 20% of the total existing products.
The selected products have good market access and good raw material areas to build strong brand products for Dong Thap in the future. One of the key solutions is to implement green, circular agricultural development, digital transformation associated with resource and environmental protection, and green growth.
In addition, the industry will monitor and overcome landslides and storms; deploy climate change response plans; and continue to strive with the whole province to complete tasks, goals and targets for 2025.
