As VietNamNet reported, Thuy Linh restaurant (Vinh Phu ward, Nghe An province ) was recently accused of selling meals to officials and employees of the Nghe An provincial power company at exorbitant prices. The 135,000 VND meal only included white rice, stir-fried cabbage, a small amount of braised meat, and two pieces of sausage. The restaurant later claimed that the meal was free.
Speaking with a VietNamNet reporter, the Nghe An Power Company stated that on August 26th, Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong Lam, an administrative employee of the company, ordered 230 meals for dinner at Thuy Linh restaurant at a price of 130,000 VND per meal (not 135,000 VND as reported on social media). She also ordered 310 meals the following day, August 27th.
On the evening of August 26th, the restaurant delivered the first meals. The power company did not open the package to inspect it, but instead took it to the site where they were repairing the power grid for the staff and employees to eat.
When the restaurant delivered the next batch of meals to the power company, a staff member opened the meal to check its contents and discovered that there was very little rice and food inside.
"We found that 130,000 VND per meal was expensive and did not meet the requirements for employee meals or ensure their health, so we reported it to the restaurant," the Nghe An power company informed.

After the incident was reported, the restaurant owner stated that due to Typhoon No. 5 sweeping through the area, the market was experiencing food shortages. The restaurant was unable to purchase enough food to meet the electricity company's requirements.
“We ordered 130,000 VND per serving, but they couldn't fulfill our order and didn't inform us. They remained silent and continued selling each serving for 130,000 VND. On the morning of August 27th, I requested an invoice from the restaurant for payment. They agreed, but by noon, the restaurant informed me they would only charge for the dinner from August 26th at 60,000 VND.”
"I disagree because if they were selling the meals for 60,000 VND, they should have notified us on August 26th so we would know. Then, on the afternoon of August 27th, Thuy Linh restaurant informed the electricity company that those meals were free," the company representative said.
"The electricians are very tired, so we need to buy each of them a meal for 130,000 VND to ensure their health."
We paid for the meals we ordered; there's no such thing as getting free food from the restaurant. If the restaurant wasn't going to charge us, they should have stated that from the start. Even now, we don't know if those meals cost 130,000 VND or 60,000 VND.
"We will wait for the company's leadership to decide how to handle this," the company stated.
Reportedly, on the evening of August 27th, the power company held a meeting with Thuy Linh restaurant. During the meeting, the restaurant admitted fault for the substandard meals but denied notifying the power company immediately.
“The power company charged 120,000 VND per meal, but if you requested a receipt, it would be 130,000 VND. I was wrong to charge less than 130,000 VND for the meal but didn't report it to the power company. After the meeting, I told the power company officials that yesterday's meal should have cost 60,000 VND, but I didn't take the money,” explained Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy, the restaurant owner, to the reporter.
Previously, images of a meal costing 135,000 VND, allegedly sold by a restaurant in Nghe An to electricity company officials and employees, circulated on social media.
The information immediately attracted attention and sparked debate on social media.
A reporter from VietNamNet quickly contacted Thuy Linh restaurant. Initially, the restaurant owner admitted that the meal posted on social media was ordered by Nghe An Power Company, costing 135,000 VND due to the high cost of ingredients.
However, he later contacted the reporter and explained: "The meal that was posted on social media was prepared for free by the restaurant to show support for the hard work of the power company's employees during the stormy weather."
Regarding the price of the meals, Ms. Thuy said that the power company set the price at 130,000 VND per meal. "Because I work directly with the restaurant, my husband didn't know the details and had previously stated that each meal cost 135,000 VND," the restaurant owner said.
