Retail sales of goods and consumer services revenue in the first quarter increased by 9.9%

According to the General Statistics Office - Ministry of Finance, total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue in the first quarter of the country increased by 9.9% over the same period.

Total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue grew steadily.

Specifically, according to the report released by the General Statistics Office on the morning of April 6, the high domestic consumption demand during the holidays and the New Year; the high number of international visitors to Vietnam are factors that positively contribute to the growth of the trade and service sector.

Specifically, total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue at current prices in March 2025 is estimated at VND 570.9 trillion, up 1.7% over the previous month and up 10.8% over the same period last year.

Domestic market maintains growth momentum in the first quarter of 2025

In the first quarter of 2025, the total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue at current prices is estimated at VND 1,708.3 trillion, up 9.9% over the same period last year (in the first quarter of 2024, it increased by 8.6%), if excluding price factors, it increased by 7.5% (in the first quarter of 2024, it increased by 5.5%).

Specifically, retail sales of goods in the first quarter of 2025 are estimated at VND 1,311.7 trillion, accounting for 76.8% of the total and increasing by 8.8% over the same period last year.

Revenue from accommodation and catering services in the first quarter of 2025 is estimated at VND 200.1 trillion, accounting for 11.7% of the total and increasing by 14.0% over the same period last year.

Revenue from accommodation and catering services in the first quarter of 2025 compared to the same period last year in some localities is as follows: Quang Ninh increased by 20.1%; Da Nang increased by 16.7%; Hanoi increased by 14.9%; Hai Phong increased by 14.6%; Khanh Hoa increased by 11.4%; Can Tho increased by 11.2%; Ho Chi Minh City increased by 9.0%.

Tourism revenue in the first quarter of 2025 is estimated at VND 21.5 trillion, accounting for 1.3% of the total and increasing by 18.3% over the same period last year. Tourism revenue in the first quarter of 2025 of some localities increased sharply compared to the same period last year as follows: Hanoi increased by 23.5%; Da Nang increased by 22.1%; Quang Ninh increased by 20.9%; Binh Duong increased by 19.3%; Ho Chi Minh City increased by 15.1%; Hai Phong increased by 9.1%.

Revenue from other services in the first quarter of 2025 is estimated at VND 175.0 trillion, accounting for 10.2% of the total and increasing by 12.5% ​​over the same period last year. Specifically, the increase/decrease in the first quarter of 2025 compared to the same period last year in some localities is as follows: Thai Nguyen increased by 26.8%; Dong Nai increased by 21.6%; Kien Giang increased by 17.0%; Ho Chi Minh City increased by 14.8%; Can Tho increased by 13.1%; Quang Ninh increased by 12.5%; Khanh Hoa increased by 11.1%; Hanoi increased by 9.0%; Hai Phong increased by 6.9%; Dong Thap decreased by 2.4%; Hoa Binh decreased by 15.5%.

Boost domestic market growth

On the side of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, to promote domestic market growth, the Ministry of Industry and Trade recently issued Directive No. 08/CT-BCT dated April 4, 2025 assigning targets for total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue in 2025 to each locality.

In addition, the Ministry determined to continue to accelerate the review, revision, development and completion of a number of legal documents on domestic market development to ensure they are consistent with the practical situation, effectively serving the management of the macro economy and the purchase and sale of goods by people and businesses.

Promote the effective implementation of the Domestic Trade Development Strategy for the period up to 2030, with a vision to 2045, and Programs and projects on domestic trade development such as: Project on Innovation in Agricultural Product Consumption Business Methods for the period 2021 - 2025 with a vision to 2030; Project on Domestic Market Development in conjunction with the Campaign "Vietnamese people prioritize using Vietnamese goods" for the period 2021 - 2025; Program on Trade Development for Mountainous, Remote, and Island Areas for the period 2021 - 2025; Program on Development of Vietnam Border Trade Infrastructure for the period 2025 - 2030.

Continue to coordinate with local ministries and branches to closely monitor market developments, ensure adequate supply of essential goods to meet people's needs, especially during peak holidays and Tet, and prevent shortages and price hikes.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade has determined to focus on communication work to provide people with full information about the supply situation of goods... to create a stable mentality for consumers, promptly handle false information, causing psychological instability for consumers.
