Retail sales of goods and consumer services revenue in the first quarter increased by 9.9%

According to the General Statistics Office - Ministry of Finance, total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue in the first quarter of the country increased by 9.9% over the same period.

Total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue showed stable growth.

Specifically, according to a report released by the General Statistics Office on the morning of April 6th, increased domestic consumer demand during the Lunar New Year holidays and the high number of international visitors to Vietnam are positive factors contributing to the growth of the trade and service sectors.

Specifically, total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue at current prices in March 2025 are estimated at VND 570.9 trillion, an increase of 1.7% compared to the previous month and an increase of 10.8% compared to the same period last year.

The domestic market maintained its growth momentum in the first quarter of 2025.

Overall, in the first quarter of 2025, total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue at current prices are estimated to reach VND 1,708.3 trillion, an increase of 9.9% compared to the same period last year (Q1 2024 increased by 8.6%), or 7.5% if excluding the price increase factor (Q1 2024 increased by 5.5%).

Specifically, retail sales of goods in the first quarter of 2025 are estimated at VND 1,311.7 trillion, accounting for 76.8% of the total and increasing by 8.8% compared to the same period last year.

Revenue from accommodation and food services in the first quarter of 2025 is estimated at VND 200.1 trillion, accounting for 11.7% of the total and increasing by 14.0% compared to the same period last year.

Revenue from accommodation and food services in the first quarter of 2025 compared to the same period last year in some localities is as follows: Quang Ninh increased by 20.1%; Da Nang increased by 16.7%; Hanoi increased by 14.9%; Hai Phong increased by 14.6%; Khanh Hoa increased by 11.4%; Can Tho increased by 11.2%; Ho Chi Minh City increased by 9.0%.

Tourism revenue in the first quarter of 2025 is estimated at VND 21.5 trillion, accounting for 1.3% of the total and increasing by 18.3% compared to the same period last year. Revenue from tourism services in the first quarter of 2025 in several localities increased significantly compared to the same period last year as follows: Hanoi increased by 23.5%; Da Nang by 22.1%; Quang Ninh by 20.9%; Binh Duong by 19.3%; Ho Chi Minh City by 15.1%; and Hai Phong by 9.1%.

Revenue from other services in Q1/2025 is estimated at VND 175.0 trillion, accounting for 10.2% of the total and increasing by 12.5% ​​compared to the same period last year. Specifically, the increase/decrease in Q1/2025 compared to the same period last year for some localities is as follows: Thai Nguyen increased by 26.8%; Dong Nai increased by 21.6%; Kien Giang increased by 17.0%; Ho Chi Minh City increased by 14.8%; Can Tho increased by 13.1%; Quang Ninh increased by 12.5%; Khanh Hoa increased by 11.1%; Hanoi increased by 9.0%; Hai Phong increased by 6.9%; Dong Thap decreased by 2.4%; Hoa Binh decreased by 15.5%.

Boosting domestic market growth

On the part of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, to promote domestic market growth, the Ministry recently issued Directive No. 08/CT-BCT dated April 4, 2025, assigning targets for total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue in 2025 to each locality.

In addition, the Ministry has decided to continue accelerating the review, amendment, development, and improvement of a number of legal documents on the development of the domestic market, ensuring they are consistent with the practical situation and effectively serve the macroeconomic management and the buying and selling activities of people and businesses.

The organization is promoting the effective implementation of the Domestic Trade Development Strategy for the period up to 2030, with a vision to 2045, and other programs and projects on domestic trade development such as: the Project on Innovation in Business Methods for Agricultural Product Consumption in the period 2021-2025, with a direction to 2030; the Project on Developing the Domestic Market in conjunction with the "Vietnamese People Prioritize Using Vietnamese Goods" Campaign in the period 2021-2025; the Program for Trade Development in mountainous, remote, and island areas in the period 2021-2025; and the Program for Developing Vietnam's Border Trade Infrastructure up to 2025, with a vision to 2030.

Continue to coordinate with ministries, departments, and local authorities to closely monitor market developments, ensuring sufficient supply of essential goods to meet people's needs, especially during peak holiday seasons, and preventing shortages and price spikes.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade has determined that it will focus on communication efforts to provide the public with comprehensive information about the supply of goods… in order to create a stable mindset for consumers and promptly address misleading information that causes consumer anxiety.
