According to the plan, the male and female pistol team of the Vietnam shooting team will go to Korea for training from November 22 to December 2. This group includes shooters Trinh Thu Vinh and Pham Quang Huy, who are key athletes competing for individual and team gold medals.
The male and female rifle and flying saucer teams will go to Thailand from November 30 for training. The team will then stay to compete until the end of the shooting event of the 33rd SEA Games.
Hope in Thu Vinh, Quang Huy
Speaking to Tuoi Tre, head coach of the Vietnamese shooting team, Mr. Nghiem Viet Hung, said that the target that the coaching staff registered with the sport was to win from 5 to 7 gold medals at the 33rd SEA Games. 7 gold medals is also the number that the Vietnamese shooting team achieved at the 31st SEA Games at home in 2022.
Mr. Nghiem Viet Hung shared: "The biggest difficulty for the team at the 33rd SEA Games is competing in Thailand, when the organizing committee cut many events, including Vietnam's strong events. We won 2 gold medals in the events that Thailand cut this year, which were the 50m pistol and men's air rifle."
In the shooting team, Trinh Thu Vinh is considered a potential golden hope for Vietnam. At the 33rd SEA Games, she will compete in the following events: 10m individual and team air pistol, 25m individual and team air pistol, mixed men's and women's pistol.
At the most recent tournament, Trinh Thu Vinh also brought home a gold medal for the Vietnam People's Public Security sports delegation at the 2025 World Police and Fire Congress.
"Our best form is 1 to 2 weeks before the competition. We will have to maintain our form and focus, maintain our physical condition to enter the tournament with the most calm and confidence. Each country has 1 to 2 strong athletes in the event we compete in. I meet them a lot when competing abroad. They actually compete internationally more than Vietnamese athletes, so it is impossible to predict anything," shooter Trinh Thu Vinh shared.
Thu Vinh is an athlete who has won a ticket to the top 4 at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Meanwhile, shooter Pham Quang Huy is the 19th Asian Games champion in the men's 10m air pistol event. Currently, Vietnamese shooters are in the final stage of preparation for the 33rd SEA Games at the Hanoi High-Level Sports Training Center shooting range.

Indonesia and Thailand are very strong.
The Vietnamese shooting team will participate in the 33rd SEA Games with 23 shooters, 5 coaches and 1 Korean expert. The team will leave for Thailand from December 8 until the end of the Games.
Previously, the Vietnamese shooting team won 7 gold medals at the 31st SEA Games at home. But at the 32nd SEA Games in 2023 in Cambodia, the host country will not organize this sport.
At the 33rd SEA Games, shooting has 22 events, of which 20 events are in the competition program of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), 2 events are outside the IOC: compak and sporting (flying disc shooting). The Vietnamese shooting team will compete in 21 events.
The most recent Southeast Asian Games with shooting was the 31st SEA Games in Vietnam. Here, Indonesia's shooting team won the most gold medals overall with 8 gold medals. Although the Vietnamese shooting team came in second with 7 gold medals, they had the most medals overall with 17.
At the SEA Games, Indonesia and Thailand are the countries with the strongest shooting teams in the region. Each country has its own strengths. The 33rd SEA Games is considered a fierce competition for Vietnamese shooting. The shooters will have to compete fiercely with the host Thailand and especially Indonesia.
