He invited actors from the TV version such as Ngoc Trai and Vu Long to sit as casting judges, helping to choose the most suitable faces for the film version.
Vo Thanh Hoa cherished the idea of making the film Kaleidoscope at the end of 2019. He had made many films but had not yet adapted any literary works. When the producer invited him to be the director, Vo Thanh Hoa was moved to accept because this was the first book he had read in his life.
During the script writing process, he met with writer Nguyen Nhat Anh to better understand the work. The writer said that he respected the filmmaker so he did not interfere with the idea or the filming process. Vo Thanh Hoa said that he made the film in an independent spirit, with a more contemporary feel than the original story.
