Vietnam and India have had a traditional relationship for more than 2000 years thanks to cultural and civil connections. In the past, Indians came to Vietnam to spread Buddhism and Hinduism.
Over the past century, Vietnam and India have been united and supported each other in the war for national independence. The Vietnamese people will always remember the image of the Indian people sharing and supporting the spirit of independence of Vietnam, when they shouted "Tomar Naam, Amar Naam, Vietnam Vietnam" which means "Your name, my name, Vietnam, Vietnam" on the streets.

Today, Vietnam considers India one of its most important partners; the two countries have been comprehensive strategic partners since 2016. Political relations, security and defense cooperation between the two countries are excellent. The connection between the two peoples has never been stronger than it is today. In the first 11 months of 2023 alone, 352,200 Indian tourists visited Vietnam, putting the South Asian country in the top 10 countries with the most tourists to Vietnam.
However, according to assessments, economic cooperation between the two countries is still modest compared to their potential and expectations. For example, in the field of trade, the total turnover in 2022 between the two countries is only at 15 billion USD, which is about 2% of Vietnam's total trade with the world. India has only invested 1 billion USD in Vietnam and Vietnam has invested more than 30 million USD in India.

In Nghe An, there are currently only 5 FDI projects from India with a total committed capital of nearly 39 million USD, ranking 8th among foreign investment countries, mainly processing stone and wood. The total import-export turnover in 11 months of 2023 between Nghe An and India reached nearly 70 million USD.
Vietnamese Ambassador to India Nguyen Thanh Hai said: Nghe An province has made the right decision to come to India at this time, because after the Covid-19 pandemic, it is the perfect time to strengthen the partnership for mutual benefit. Both India and Vietnam have ambitious development goals. India aims to become a developed country by 2047, while Vietnam aims to do so by 2045.

The strategic interests of the two countries are converging, so it is necessary to transform the friendship and good political relations into effective partnerships, for the benefit of the people, localities and businesses of each side.
The visit and work of Provincial Party Secretary Thai Thanh Quy and the high-ranking delegation of Nghe An province has opened up new cooperation opportunities between the province and its partners; especially creating a bridge for Indian enterprises to come and learn about and invest in Nghe An, especially in the fields that the province prioritizes attracting and India has strengths in, such as: Electronic equipment and components manufacturing industry, information technology, telecommunications; automobile component manufacturing and assembly; pharmaceutical processing; high-tech agriculture; financial services, banking, insurance, logistics; training of high-quality human resources; resort and ecological tourism; construction and operation of seaport infrastructure.
