Nearly 20,000 residents and tourists flocked to Lam Vien Square, Da Lat, last night as the city held a fireworks display to celebrate its 130th anniversary.
On the evening of December 30, Lam Vien Square, Da Lat City celebrated "130 years of Da Lat's formation and development" and received the title "Creative City of Music " honored by UNESCO with dance and gong performances recreating the 130 years of Da Lat's formation and development and an artistic fireworks display.
The event attracted a large number of visitors because it coincided with the New Year holiday. The organizers said the event attracted nearly 20,000 people and tourists, filling Lam Vien Square.

Mr. Truong Cong Ho, from Ho Chi Minh City, said he visited Da Lat on December 30 and walked around the city center at night to watch the fireworks. About 15 minutes before and after the fireworks, the roads near the square, the section around Xuan Huong Lake and the Da Lat roundabout were jammed. Because it was difficult to move to the square area, Mr. Ho stood on the other side of Xuan Huong Lake to find a place with less people to watch the fireworks.
"In addition to the 130th anniversary event, there is also a night food street near the square, which is why it is so crowded," said Mr. Cong Ho.

The countdown program will have performances lasting from 7:00 p.m. on December 31 to 0:00 a.m. on January 1, 2024, followed by a 15-minute fireworks display.
During the 3-day holiday (December 30, 2023 - January 1, 2024), it is estimated that the number of visitors to Da Lat will reach more than 140,000, of which international visitors are estimated at 5,000 and domestic visitors are 135,000.
130 years ago, on June 21, 1893, Dr. Alexandre Yersin - a French scientist, set foot on the Langbian plateau at an altitude of 1,500 meters above sea level and discovered a land with a temperate, cool, peaceful climate, an ideal location to build a resort center. This is considered the beginning of the formation and development of Da Lat today.
