Entering the race with great determination, the two Vietnamese athletes quickly accelerated and maintained the lead throughout the entire leg.
Despite pressure from strong regional competitors, Nguyen Thi Huong and Diep Thi Huong maintained a steady rowing rhythm, demonstrating their competitive spirit to cross the finish line first and bring home the opening gold medal for the delegation.
Immediately after the victory, the Head of the Vietnamese Sports Delegation, Nguyen Hong Minh, awarded both athletes a bonus of 10 million VND to promptly encourage their competitive spirit.
In the joy of victory, Nguyen Thi Huong said she was extremely proud to have brought home the first gold medal for the Vietnamese delegation along with her teammates. The moment she stepped onto the podium to receive the medal and sang the national anthem made her "both happy and excited".
In addition, she also expressed her gratitude to the team leaders, the Vietnam Rowing Federation, and the coaching staff for their constant encouragement and support to the two athletes throughout the preparation and competition.

In the Vietnamese rowing scene, Nguyen Thi Huong has long been a prominent figure. She made a big splash at the 31st SEA Games when she won 5 gold medals in canoeing on home soil. A year later, even though host country Cambodia did not organize canoeing at the 32nd SEA Games, Huong still demonstrated her prowess when she switched to traditional rowing and continued to bring home 3 gold medals.
Returning to the SEA Games arena this year, the female athlete from Vinh Phuc continues to be a gold medal hope for Vietnamese sports. Besides the doubles events, she will also participate in many singles events and is expected to become one of the most outstanding athletes of the delegation at the 33rd SEA Games.
What Nguyen Thi Huong showed on the opening day demonstrated that she is fully ready to create another explosive Games, continuing to bring home many valuable gold medals for Vietnamese sports.
This convincing victory by the two girls not only helped Vietnam "break the record books" but also created a strong morale boost for the entire team.
