“This is the day President Ho Chi Minh sent a letter to the agriculture and forestry sector in 1961, encouraging the spirit of the workers; in 2016, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism chose it as Vietnam Coffee Day, to honor the contribution of the coffee industry to the Vietnamese economy , promote the Vietnamese coffee brand to the world, and encourage sustainable production and enhance the value of coffee beans. Over the years, this has also been an opportunity for farmers, roasters, businesses, and researchers to meet and discuss new solutions and knowledge about coffee beans,” Mr. Le Van Vuong explained.

With that in mind, Vuong Thanh Cong Company organized a thematic seminar on coffee roasting and processing, with the participation, exchange, and dialogue of 6 local coffee experts in Buon Ma Thuot.

Experts have provided insights into the investment and development of coffee cultivation in Dak Lak and the Central Highlands, the history of leveraging the economic value of coffee quality from a scientific research perspective, and the application of organic production…

The discussion particularly emphasized the changing trends in coffee bean value, development opportunities, and the export of Buon Ma Thuot, Dak Lak coffee to the outside world. In particular, the role of the processing industry and the practice of roasting coffee beans, from raw, unprocessed beans to advanced processing, creating distinctive values for high-quality coffee, has always been a focus of attention for researchers and businesses.

At the same seminar, Vuong Thanh Cong Company also inaugurated its second advanced coffee roasting and grinding course. This is an annual program organized by the company, which has been maintained over the years, with 16 basic courses, 12 intensive courses, and 1 advanced course having been launched so far, attracting more than 600 domestic and international participants.

This second advanced course will take place over two days, accepting only 10 participants who already have experience in coffee roasting, aiming to equip those pursuing the profession and passionate about high-quality coffee with advanced knowledge.

Alongside the seminar, Tay Nguyen University also announced the final round of the competition on innovative solutions for adapting to climate change in the coffee industry in 2025, with the participation of many student groups from the university and interested young people.

This event, organized by the Coffee Innovation Cluster (CSIRO) and Tay Nguyen University, was sponsored by the Australian Government. Trung Nguyen Coffee stated that the event was very meaningful for many young people, especially students studying at Tay Nguyen University, a region deeply rooted in the knowledge and heritage of coffee cultivation and processing.

It was through participating in the competition that many young people became aware of the content and historical issues of the coffee cultural heritage of the highlands.

Spread cultural values!

Mr. Tran Hong Tien, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Dak Lak, expressed that Vietnam Coffee Day is a memorable milestone for those who grow and process this valuable agricultural product, especially noteworthy in the capital city of Dak Lak.

With the recognition from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the role and position of the coffee industry in the Central Highlands have been further enhanced, and 2025 marks the first time that the cultural heritage of coffee will be celebrated.

The People's Committee of Dak Lak province directed the Dak Lak Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism to coordinate with the UNESCO Vietnam office, Ho Chi Minh City University of Culture, and Yunnan University to organize an international scientific workshop and forum on "The Global Coffee Industry Value Chain - Global, Local and Sustainable Development" in Buon Ma Thuot on December 2nd.

This is a major scientific event, recognizing the collaboration of many domestic and international organizations and units, together offering a new vision for the development of Vietnam's coffee industry within the global value chain.

The workshop was a success, with presentations and explanations from many scientists, researchers, and representatives of organizations and businesses investing in the in-depth development of coffee; and with more than 67 papers and scientific reports compiled.

Dr. Lam Nhan, Rector of Ho Chi Minh City University of Culture, shared: “This event is an opportunity for us to discuss the coffee heritage – from knowledge of planting, caring for, and processing coffee, to the culture of enjoying it; issues related to the development of the coffee industry, technology, and branding; and social responsibility, environmental protection, natural resource restoration, and sustainable development in the process of investing in and cultivating coffee plants.”

According to Mr. Tran Hong Tien, recently, natural disasters such as storms and floods have seriously affected many provinces and cities nationwide, and Dak Lak is also one of the localities that suffered extensive damage.

Therefore, the local authorities did not intend to organize large-scale events and activities, so the program to celebrate Vietnam Coffee Day 2025 was not overly lively.

However, the significance and value of Vietnam Coffee Day continue to spread widely among the community and social enterprises involved in the Vietnamese coffee business; especially among professionals and investors in the coffee industry, highlighting its profound cultural heritage values.
