Professor Nguyen Tien Thao - Director of the Department of Higher Education ( Ministry of Education and Training ) said that the conference focused on discussing many issues, notably whether to maintain the admission method based on academic records.
In 2025, there will be 17 admission methods. According to statistics, the percentage of candidates using the method of considering academic records accounts for 42.4%; considering high school graduation exam scores accounts for 39.1%; the rest are other methods, accounting for 18.5%.
Regarding the issue of maintaining or eliminating this method, Mr. Nguyen Tien Thao said that it is time to take a comprehensive look: should we continue to consider high school transcripts in the future or not?

In fact, in the 2025 admission season, many major universities have “said no” to considering transcripts for admission. Among the more than 120 universities that have announced their expected admission methods, the number of schools that have abandoned this method is on the rise.
According to statistics from the Department of Higher Education (Ministry of Education and Training), in 2025, 852,000 candidates registered for the exam, with 7.6 million wishes for more than 4,000 majors and training programs of more than 500 universities and colleges nationwide.
The entire admission process is conducted online, from registration, fee payment, virtual screening to admission confirmation. The Northern group, chaired by Hanoi University of Science and Technology, organizes a common admission exam for 65 training institutions.
As of September 2, 2025, 625,477 candidates had completed their admission confirmation (an increase of 13.82% compared to 2024). Of which, the university sector alone reached 613,335, equivalent to 52.87% of the total number of candidates taking the high school graduation exam (in 2024 it was 51.3%). Notably, the rate of training institutions recruiting less than 30% of the target decreased sharply, to 6.5% compared to 16.4% in 2024. These figures not only reflect the increasing learning needs of learners and the labor market, but also strengthen society's trust in the quality of higher education.
