National forestry planning not only sets economic development goals but also aims at addressing climate change, promoting sustainable development, and protecting the environment.
On October 9-10, in Hanoi , the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development held a conference to announce the decision approving the National Forestry Planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050.
According to Decision No. 895/QD-TTg dated August 24, 2024, of the Prime Minister , the national forestry plan will focus on the sustainable development of the forestry sector, including objectives for the protection and development of forest resources and forest land. The planning scope includes forest land (land with forests and land without forests but planned for forest development) and forestry infrastructure such as nurseries, forest protection stations, and forest product transportation routes.
Speaking at the conference, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Minh Hoan emphasized the importance of planning in maximizing the potential of forests to contribute to socio-economic development, environmental protection, and climate change adaptation.
Mr. Tran Quang Bao, Director of the Forestry Department, stated that the National Forestry Planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, is an important step forward, contributing to the implementation of the Planning Law and the Forestry Law.
The specific objectives of the plan include maintaining forest cover at 42% to 43% nationwide, improving the quality of natural forests, and achieving an annual growth rate of 5% to 5.5% in forestry production value. The plan also aims to increase income from planted production forests by 1.5 times by 2025 and double by 2030 compared to 2020; the value of wood and forestry product exports is projected to reach US$20 billion by 2025 and US$25 billion by 2030.
According to Mr. Tran Quang Bao, the plan also sets a target of increasing forest environmental service revenue by an average of 5% per year, reaching approximately 4,000 billion VND/year during the 2026-2030 period. Key solutions include transferring high technology in forestry production, developing sustainable forest management plans, and supporting livelihood development for communities in the buffer zones of special-use forests.
The total capital required to implement the plan until 2030 is estimated at approximately 217,305 billion VND, including funds from the state budget and other legitimate sources.
