Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son held a private meeting with Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Saleumxay Kommasith.

On the morning of July 11th, in Jakarta, Indonesia, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son met privately with Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Saleumxay Kommasith on the occasion of their joint participation in the 56th ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting (AMM-56).

Both sides expressed satisfaction with the positive development of Vietnam-Laos relations, particularly the exchange of delegations and high-level contacts, as well as the promotion of key cooperation projects, most recently the commissioning of Nong Khang Airport in Hua Phan province, which contributes to promoting tourism cooperation and facilitating travel for people.

Both sides agreed to coordinate closely and make thorough preparations for high-level activities through Party and Government channels, as well as other cooperation mechanisms.

The two Ministers highly appreciated the cooperation between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam and Laos; expressed satisfaction with the substantive results of the 8th Political Consultations at the Deputy Foreign Minister level (Laos, June 2023); and affirmed that they will coordinate to promote and effectively implement cooperation areas, especially economic diplomacy, in the context of the volatile regional and global economic situation.

On this occasion, Minister Bui Thanh Son invited the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Laos to visit and co-chair the 10th Ministerial-level Political Consultative Meeting in Vietnam, tentatively scheduled for the end of 2023.

Both sides agreed to coordinate closely and support each other in multilateral forums, especially within ASEAN and the Mekong sub-regional cooperation mechanisms; and to regularly exchange and consult on international and regional issues of common concern.

Highly appreciating Laos' proactive preparations for its ASEAN Chairmanship in 2024, Minister Bui Thanh Son emphasized that Vietnam is ready to support Laos in preparing for and successfully undertaking this important task.
