Ministry of Health: Concentrating human resources to rescue victims of landslides in Dien Bien

The Ministry of Health requires medical facilities to promptly transfer patients to hospitals with higher levels of expertise in cases beyond the hospital's professional capacity.

On August 3, the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment ( Ministry of Health ) informed that it had sent a document to the Department of Health of the mountainous and midland provinces of the North to focus on organizing emergency and timely treatment for victims of landslides and flash floods. This document was also sent to 2 special-class hospitals of the Ministry of Health, Viet Duc Hospital and Bach Mai Hospital.

According to Dr. Ha Anh Duc - Director of the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management, a quick report from the Department of Health of Dien Bien province and a number of Departments of Health of the mountainous and midland provinces of the North, due to the impact of heavy rain lasting from July 31, 2025 to August 1, 2025, landslides and flash floods affected the health and lives of people; medical examination and treatment have been actively deployed to provide timely emergency treatment and stabilization for most of the victims.

In particular, at present, Dien Bien Provincial General Hospital is providing emergency care and treatment for 3 victims, including 1 child patient diagnosed with grade 3 liver rupture; the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management requests the Directors of Dien Bien Department of Health, Directors of Departments of Health of the mountainous and midland provinces of the North to continue to urgently focus on human resources and expertise to treat patients, coordinate with hospitals and leading experts to promptly consult and treat the victims.

The Ministry of Health requires that medical facilities, in cases beyond the hospital's professional capacity, promptly transfer patients to hospitals with higher levels of expertise or specialized levels to ensure the best care and treatment conditions for victims.

Medical units coordinate with relevant agencies to overcome the consequences of landslides and flash floods; organize to be ready to receive patients and victims in the context of complicated weather forecasts; pay attention to health care and psychological stability for accident victims.

In particular, functional units continue to monitor, promptly report and update developments in the rescue work for victims and suggestions (if any) to the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management, Ministry of Health for synthesis and reporting./.
